I’m going to elect myself as a storyboard artist rather than a designer. So right away I’m feeling like since these bosses are replayable, the first time you fight the boss it’s like for real in-world fighting, and then the missions and stuff after that is simulated battles designed by your players’ “organization” or whatever is sending them out on these missions. I like the idea of a more fantasy world with mages and such, but I think a steampunk theme would also go crazy with this gameplay. There can still be magic and stuff, but just the design of the character and all that would look sick. Different biomes for the bosses are a huge deal, and making them unique is a great idea. Like imagine these steampunk fighters crawling through a dense jungle or fighting their way through snowy winds. Let me know if you have an idea for the overarching story or not, and we can go from there.

  • I mean, refights could be a simulation or something, but tbh I'm actually totally okay with not offering any reason you can replay fights at all. Replaying levels is a video game thing most people are willing to overlook and not think too hard about. That said, I actually love the idea of this being steampunk. Steampunk mages. Yes. And honestly, that's not even a bad working title; "Steampunk Mages". It kinda gives off "Wizard with a Gun" vibes. What's also kinda fun about the idea, is--as mentioned--different biomes and stuff are very important, meaning the majority of the battles wouldn't actually be taking place in a steampunk city. Especially if some more traditional fantasy elements were incorporated into the steampunk world, that makes for a fun aesthetic, I think. Unfortunately, I have 0 ideas when it comes to story. I have other writing projects currently taking precedence, since this won't be started on for a few months at least, and won't even be my main project when I do get started. That being said, since a lot of the environments won't be hardcore steampunk, in order to keep the steampunk as more than just flavor text, some of the enemies should reflect the steampunk world. Which probably means at least some portion of them are big mechanical steampunk robots.

  • Yeah thats totally fine, just offering ideas. That’s a badass title, and I definitely agree with the idea of it being steampunk-y but that not being the only environment. As far as story goes, like the main/final boss was once a mage just like the player but discovered a new magic through his technological experiments and became corrupted and created corrupted steampunk creatures/minions and now you have to stop him from covering the whole planet in this dark, corroded magic? That’s the best I got lol.
