No matter how much I build into Airborne Effectiveness, it still doesn't ever feel good.

This may be a controller specific thing, but I remember from before its implementation I was confident in being able to combat others from the air. I understand that the initiative with Airborne Effectiveness was to reign in the viability of certain Special Weapons more than anything, but even with Bungie's numerous efforts in improving it for Primary Weapons, it just doesn't feel consistent enough to rely on. Back when it was implemented, I remember the sentiment was generally negative, and its since died down due for one reason or another. Anyone else feel the same?

  • Can't have people getting shot while you're in the air, pal. All the snowflake coloured princess's will whine non stop. Somebody think of the children.

  • Yeah everything feels bad in the air regardless of how much I build into ae. I still find myself jumping into engagements out of habit and cursing myself for it after.

  • Worst design decision ever. AE is bad no matter how much they tried to defend it.

Due to the way the game has been changing over time, some people might have a little more or even a decent bit more in air accuracy even though it can be pretty random. And some people have less than they used to but still more than the first group did before. It would be cool to have it work 100% consistently but now its probably only a little less consistent than shooting while on the ground for most people.

  • Yeah it's just bad on controller, this game would be so lit if 100 ae was actually no penalty compared to grounded.

    • base 0 is now the same old icarus, after 30 is close to normal precision after 60 is just normal precision . 100 is more AA than normal

    • It might be because of the stat penalties that are always active while in the air. Like someone told me, it seems that Airborne Effectiveness doesn't do anything for aim-assist or accuracy as the same penalties for those stats while in the air are applied no matter what your AE stat is. The only thing AE affects alone is bullet deviation. Shooting enemies while in the air can still be pretty unforgiving regardless of your AE stat because of that. You need something extra to actually improve your shot accuracy in the air. Heat Rises on Solar Warlocks almost completely removes the penalties while the buff is active even though it doesn't really explain it well. I don't know if other Aspects or Fragments can also do that or not. Certain traits and mods on armor and weapons can help mitigate the penalties while in the air as well. Dynamic Sway Reduction and Tap the Trigger can be used while airborne to improve your accuracy for full-auto weapons pretty well. Other traits that improve accuracy can also help, though your options for semi-automatic weaponry are a bit more situational for aerial combat. Let me just say that a 100 AE Luna's Howl is bad in the air, at least on controller. It could be a controller thing. I think bullet magnetism might be tuned differently between controller and m&k because I see a lot of clips on YouTube of bullets bending for m&k players to get headshots, but I definitely don't notice it that much when I use controller. If that is a thing, it might also be happening in the air more for m&k players as well. I've seen a lot of aggressive players grappling through the air and 3-tapping players with hand cannons easily while being carried by the momentum.

      • They are adding a helmet mod in final shape that will give AE and can stack. Should be able to get up to 35 AE from 3 mods I believe. AE has been a game-changer for my bow to the point where I mainly like to aerial shoot now.

      • Try out Wings of Sacred Dawn. Gives you free 50 AE and some in-air damage and flinch resistances. I pair it with Hawkmoon since the gun aims for you and paracausal stacks juice the guns stats. Some drawbacks though: 1. Locked to Dawnblade Warlock 2. Wings of Sacred Dawn vs any other choice of exotic 3. Stationary target in most applications 4. Range The exotic straight up does not work unless you are a Dawnblade Warlock. IMO, should've been made more accessible past subclass 3.0, but here we are. So if you want to use Wings vs something like Ophidians, Transversives, Eye of Another World, Stag, I'd stick to the ground. Wings also makes you a stationary target in most applications, which makes it basically unusable without Icarus dash. Only neat thing is that it will retain momentum for about 3 seconds if you build up speed, which can be used for drive-by's and pot shots at blazing speeds. Great for aggressive retreats. Finally is the range. Shooting from the air means you'll be adding 1-3 meters of distance between you and your grounded targets since you're shooting distance is now the hypotenuse of the height and the ground distance you are from the enemy. Not the end of the world, but you'll have to adjust your ranges if you still want your guns feeling sticky. TL;DR, if you want AE and don't mind the drawbacks, try Wings. Otherwise, pick titan, unbind your jump key, and become the death roomba you were always meant to be.

Well in the future you can build more into AE…
Bungie stated over a year ago now, I highly doubt they’re going to do anything about it
• On controller is I find it pretty difficult to aim at moving target while you move up or down in the air
