I need help and I can’t find it no matter where I go or who I talk to

^Title For over the last 8 months, my mind has been an absolute disaster. I can’t relax, I can’t concentrate, I can barely think. My mind is racing almost constantly. Just jumping from one random -blam!- thought to the next. Whether it’s an unpleasant memory, or just some random garbage that makes little to no sense. No matter what I do, it just won’t stop. I’ve tried everything. Medication, acupuncture, massage, healing crystals, none of it works. I feel like I’m thinking myself to death. All the while being expected to put on a happy face and pretend it’s not happening. I don’t know how much more of this I can take.

  • Assuming you're in the US and are the typical broke Gen Z / Millennial, people telling you to go see a therapist are wild. It's like they think we have free health care. I'm not a health professional so take this advice with that in mind, etc. etc. My brain is kinda this way and I suffer from insomnia due to my brain getting amped up more and more the longer I go without sleep and the more I focus on it. The only thing that helps in a snap that I can afford is weed edibles / gummies. Then as long as I just let my mind run and try to let go and not obsess over trying to make it do what I want, eventually it slows down. You're probably going to hit a breaking point and have a meltdown and that may or may not reset you for a bit. Try to let go. If you have safe and legal access to weed and are of age, y'know... maybe try some? If you live in a country that cares about its people / has free healthcare then obviously see a therapist.

    • Simple: Stop focusing on yourself. I know it may seem harsh, but focusing on yourself leads to ruminating. Just try to find ways to make others days. Serve others. That can help clear your mind. It may not be the total cure, but it’ll be alright. I have the same issue sometimes. It’ll be okay in the end.

      • For once, I have to agree with everyone else and say you should see a therapist. Other than that, maybe in your free time you could try something more involved like exercise or modeling (plastic projects, not the other kind). I find that having something that demands focus tends to stop me from thinking about anything else. Maybe that's just me, though.

      • I can’t say I completely understand what you’re going through, but it does sound a lot like what I do sometimes. Spiraling into your own thoughts is really dangerous, and as many others here I highly recommend seeing a therapist. It’s helped me rethink a lot of the things I think, and it’s really nice to share your thoughts with another human rather than them just bouncing around in your head. Remember, even if you don’t want to be here anymore, I can guarantee you that there are people that do. And if you can’t think of any, then I’m glad you’re here.

      • Talk to a therapist. They are professionals who are there to help you. People in old gaming forums online are likely not therapists. Remember that your mental state is often closely related to your physiology. Making positive and healthy choices in diet and exercise can improve your mental functioning. Sometimes, a brisk walk or other cardio has helped me to slow down a racing brain that was catastrophizing on itself. Sometimes, a change of scenery helps; go somewhere green. Reiterating the point on therapy; it works if you are willing to work with it. If you don't click with the first one, find another one. Sometimes, it takes a little bit to find the one who can help you, don't give up. Also, there exist a few ways to treat what you are dealing with, so work with your doctor. They don't know how you're feeling - they only know what you tell them; and really that should be everything related to your mental and physical health. That includes how you're reacting to meds and therapy.

      • Find somewhere quiet preferably at home. Now, either sit or lie down, relax your muscles. Now breathe, focus on long steady breathes and instead of getting lost or focusing on your thoughts just let them flow, let go of the thoughts. If it helps, you can put on some calming music. This is a simple meditation breathing practice, it may take time to see any result but just try it a few minutes at a time or however long you like in free time. Thats all I've got...

      • I had a similar experience but for me medication helped, or t least it did for a while. I had to stop because there were side effects, but the temporary medication seemed to bridge two parts of my brain where there previously felt like a gap, so whilst they didn’t magically fix anything, they did definitely help and I’m glad I was on them. My specific problem was that I felt that all the thinking stopped me from doing things, like I would be sitting in a washing machine of my thoughts and then suddenly an hour would have passed and I’m still half-dressed but now I’m late for work, for example. The medication helped to quieten the thoughts when I wanted to get certain things done, so i would just start doing the thing instead of thinking about it forever. I’ve been off them for about a year, and I was only on them for six months or so at the highest dosage, but I do feel like although it’s definitely still an issue it’s much less of one than before. Have you tried alternative/stronger medication to the one you were on? Have you tried regular meditation (more than just a few times)?

        • I've threatened to stab my brain with a Q-Tip if it didn't shut up and surprisingly, it actually works from time to time.

        • Sounds serious. I'd recommend seeing a therapist or reaching out to people who have also suffered from extreme neuroticism. Also don't lose hope in yourself. There is light in the tunnel and things will get better. Maybe not immediately, but they'll get better. Remember that tomorrow is a new day, with new challenges but also a new man with it. The past is the past and it's unchangeable, so mourning it is not going to solve any problems. I'll pray for you.

Everything will be okay. If I was ever in a situation like that I would just take like a long vacation whether I could afford it or not. Just a quiet get away to a national park or some place beautiful. It would be very healing to the soul.
