This Week at Bungie – 04/07/2016

Apr 7, 2016 - DeeJ

This week at Bungie we visited the new Crucible.

A merry (and extremely deadly) band of Warlocks assembled to make war behind the scenes. Through their battles, we sampled the new combat sandbox.

Aside from giving you new things to do and new things to earn, the April Update will change the way you fight. Special and Heavy Ammunition will appear on the battlefield less frequently, and (in some cases) you may be carrying less of it. Reviving your teammates will require some more strategic decision making on your part. Weapons have gone back to the workbench. Warlocks will display some nuanced shifts in their talents.

Did you miss the explosive demonstration? Pour yourself a nice glass of room temperature water, settle in, and watch the space magic fly through the air.

If you want more details on how your guns are changing (and we know you do), our virtual gunsmith has you covered. Whenever Senior Designer Jon Weisnewski subjects the arsenal to a design pass, he goes to great lengths to invite you into his process. Check out his full write up – stats and all.

The April Update deploys next week. Tuesday, April 12th is our target for deployment. Confidence is high. Watch for the signal and download those bits when the time comes.

The Taken will be waiting. Your fight with them is not over.

Art and the City

This weekend, fans of fantastical entertainment will journey through space and time to Seattle. They will bring with them their passion for epic struggles between heroes and villains. The gathering is in our own back yard, so we wouldn't miss it for the world.

If you find yourself strutting those halls, whether you're in a kick ass costume or not, there will be some attractions to enable you to connect with Bungie and Destiny.

On a Solid Foundation

They’re back… Did you miss our Men In Kilts?

Every year, these brave warriors join the Bungie Foundation to battle illness and suffering. It’s a cause we love to support, and an event we love to dominate. Once again, you’re invited to show the charitable community the true strength of the Guardians.

That’s not all the Bungie Foundation is up to. If you want to join us making the world a better place, you’re invited.

Check out the full update. You might even net yourself an in-game Destiny reward.

The Other Lighthouse

Destiny Player Support will keep you safe on all of your journeys, lighting the way for safe passage as you navigate the high seas of the Internet in search of adventure - and loot.

DPS: This coming Tuesday, players will be prompted to accept Destiny Update 2.2.0 onto their consoles. For general questions concerning the download of Destiny updates, please see this Help Article. There are a few notes that we would like to highlight in preparation:
  • Please ensure that you have the proper amount of space available to accept Update 2.2.0.
  • Interrupting downloads may force all previous content to be re-downloaded on some consoles.
  • Some consoles will attempt to verify all previously downloaded content before downloading Update 2.2.0. If any issues are found, or the verification process is interrupted, all previous content will be deleted and downloaded once more.
  • Vendor inspection on Bungie.net and the Destiny Companion Application will be temporarily unavailable throughout Tuesday. Stay tuned to #Help and @BungieHelp for availability.

If you experience any issues downloading Update 2.2.0, or playing after accepting the update, please let us know in the #Help forum. DPS will be posting a Vital Information Thread alongside the release of the April Update containing links to all updated and newly created Help Articles and updates for known issues.

Creation Celebration

When all is said and done, and the streams are over, you’re still the real stars of the show around here.

Cozmo: We’ve got more movies this week. This is the last MOTW before the April Update. I expect to see some cool stuff next week with the new emotes – and without your HUD. If this is your first time viewing the MOTW, welcome. The way it works is you send us your video by way of the Creations page, and we pick a few of the good ones to put on display for all to see. Everyone who wins gets one of these here Emblems.

Any questions? No? Well, get to it then.

Movie of the Week: Sculpted Titan.

Honorable Mention: I ain’t scared of no Ghosts.

Honorable Mention: Liftoff

We’ve talked a lot about the April Update. Now, we get to listen. We’ll see you in the Reef next week, and we’ll be eager to hear all about your new experiences.

DeeJ, out.
