Our focus for this week is a dynamic duo who come from our very own Bungie.net forums. They’ve been active contributors in our online clubhouse for years, posting valuable feedback on what they like about the game and what they feel could be changed for the better. To give other forum posters a different platform to share their opinions they created their very own podcast.
Please welcome to the recording booth RedWingGirl1999 and Lost Sols of the Destinytruthcast.
Welcome to your Community Focus. Tell us about yourselves and what you do in the Destiny community.
DTC: Thank you for having us. We're just two Destiny players and forum contributors who, through this amazing game you all created, became not only friends, but co-hosts of a community podcast for other Bnet members to share their stories and thoughts on the game. One of the most fun things we’ve done is organize a community Raid day to try to get players through Raids that hadn’t been able to. Thanks to this amazing community (on both systems) we were able to get a lot of players to experience that content for the first time.
Thanks for taking the time to show some other players how much fun Raiding can be. Where can we find you and your podcast online?
DTC: You can listen to and download our podcasts on Soundcloud, iTunes, and Podbean. We’re on YouTube and Twitter, and we have our own little home on the web. And of course you can find us right here on Bungie.net.
So you started out as active members on Bungie.net. How did you transition from that to doing what you do now with the Destinytruthcast?
DTC: One of the biggest issues post-launch was the lack of direct communication on the forum from Bungie to the Bnet community. Bnet kind of has this Wild West reputation, and everyone thinks the devs go elsewhere for feedback and discussion. The hope for the podcast was to try to change that a bit. While things have improved since launch, there is always room for growth and what we've tried to do is offer a unique platform for those within the Bnet community to give you their feedback while also providing a personal aspect that focuses on the continued building of the player/developer relationship.
I’ve sourced a lot of great feedback from our forums. Thanks for keeping the conversation alive there. What is unique about your Podcast and what are your goals with the show moving forwards?
DTC: There are a lot of amazing content creators in Destiny, but there's also a perception that unless you're a big-time streamer or YouTuber, you can't really have an impact. What makes us unique are the everyday community members from all over the world that join us each episode to discuss their points of view and share their personal stories about the game they love, Destiny. We hope to be able to continue bringing our listeners and viewers the voices and personalities behind the names we all see on the forums. Give them a place to share their opinions and stories with the Bnet community and Bungie.
Having an audience certainly helps to get your message out, but we will always seek out feedback from individual players on Bungie.net and anywhere players communicate on the internet. You both are active players of Destiny. What are your favorite Subclasses and Weapons?
RWG: I like all the Classes, but my favorite is the Titan. I use all three Subclasses evenly depending on the circumstance. However, I especially like throwing hammers at my fellow Guardians and the local alien species. And let’s be honest, without us Titans, the floofers and dancers would all be destroyed without our protection and dominance. Paired with my Swords, I’m unstoppable…. um, mostly.LS: I've played my Titan the most since launch and still love it. But since RoI, I'd have to say my Warlock has been my favorite. I mean come on RWG, everyone knows floofers do it best. As for weapons, I've always loved Scout Rifles and Chaos Dogma is my current favorite primary. But I have to say the Thesan FR4 is probably the most perfect weapon in the game (now if only I could find some ammo...).
Nice weapon choices, but you could improve on your Class decisions. There isn’t a single Hunter among you! What are you looking forward to playing most in the Age of Triumph?
RWG: I’m looking forward to completing the entire Record Book and getting back into VoG and Crota. After watching the final reveal, I’m looking forward to the new Weapon and Armor Ornaments. I’m also trying to prepare myself that I probably won’t ever get to the Lighthouse, but I’m going to try anyway.LS: I know RWG loves the VoG, and I'm really excited to get to experience that content with her because we didn't know each other back when it was endgame, but for me, going back to King's Fall will be special. It's the first Raid we ran together, and it completely changed how I experience the Destiny universe. It's also where I was forced to master the floof as RWG patiently guided me through the ship jumping. She always went back for me when I inevitably missed the second of the two ships coming across.
You are both influential posters on the #Feedback forum. Do you have any tips for other players on how to post good feedback that will trend?
RWG: I only post feedback I feel strongly about. I have no problem posting the good with the bad. All feedback is necessary. I also try to treat everyone with respect and remember this is a shared experience; time is short so it’s important to be direct and to the point.LS: Putting "nerf" in title seems to work wonders—ha. But seriously, like RWG said, we both try to just be honest in our posts about where we think things could improve, as well as what Destiny gets right.
I also think that while it's OK to be critical, you should also be willing to offer up thoughts and opinions on how things can be better as well. Bnet may be a bit... unfiltered, but at the end of the day this community has a lot of wonderful people in it and there are just as many great thoughts about Destiny here on Bnet as anywhere.
Well said. Thank you for continuing to take out time from your busy lives to share your feedback on how we can continue to improve Destiny.
Make sure you give the Destinytruthcast a listen. You can also post your own ideas on our Feedback forum. Who knows? Maybe the DTC squad will invite you on the podcast as a guest sometime.
Speaking of posting on the forum, if you have someone in mind for us to focus on in the future, make a post on the community forum with the tag #CommunityFocus.
