Opposing team nuking
I have had several gambit matches end in a loss recently even though the opposing teams primeval had significantly more health than ours. Notice this spike in activity between the hours of 3 am est and 5 am est when I finally stop playing.

That's most likely because they had their Primeval damage modifier up to 8x or higher. The modifier goes up the more envoys you kill. Nothing from what you said suggests any cheats were involved.
