-blam!-, seven years. That's a long time; it's over a third of my life, and I find that as terrifying as I do fascinating. At the end of the day, I don't think I regret it, and I don't see myself leaving any time soon. I joined in the fray that was Halo 3. I got to see Shiska and schadenfreude in action; I was scared out of the Flood forum by Captain K Mart; I made a time travel thread in the Halo 3 forum that resulted in my receiving lots of... "compliments;" and eventually, I even became a Mythic Member.
I've been a part of so many great things because of this website. I was there for Halo 3, and I lived through the ODST hype (back when it was called Recon) and the Reach hype. I got to go to the ODST launch event in Seattle and meet tons of the people behind the game. I've been to PAX (and will again in two weeks!), and I've even had an opportunity to visit the Bellevue studio. But, all of that pales in comparison to the many friends I've made over the years through this community, some of which I consider to be among my closest friends. I've stuck around not because I love Bungie (I do guys, really), but because I'm head of heels for this community.
I want to say that the people who never got to witness old Bungie.net around 2008 are missing out, and to some extent that may be a little true. There are a lot of experiences that were possible back then because of the much smaller community we had; a lot of things that will never happen now. But that said, I think there's a lot of interesting and exciting things happening in the community now days too, and the new users today have it just as good as I did back in 2008; just in a different way.
I want to give a shout out to everyone at the Community Carnage, and particularly Index. I know we bicker over silly things from time to time, but you're a large part of why the Carnages are as amazing as they are now.
Another shout out to Atom and For Carnage Apply Within. I know I hardly ever play with you guys (at least twice I year!), but I can always expect some harassment from Atom trying to get me to join in on a game night. He tells me it's because he's desperate, but I think he just really like me.
Minecrafters, you were my baby for a long time, and I still love your company (PRAISE THUNDUS), many of the DRAGONS may have migrated to warmer pastures, but I've met some quality people there, and thank you Seventh Conflux and Animal Puns, you guys have been awesome friends and even better co-conspirators.
Seven down, and here's to another seven. Stay classy, Communi7y. You guys really are the best.
tl;dr I should have had Helveck write this, he's much funnier than I could ever hope to be.
