Kotaku had an interesting article today on the ramifications of Net Neutrality being undermined. Your costs as a gamer or using Netflix might skyrocket because Internet Providers are in a slap fight over bandwidth and services they back up over competitors. So you have Destiny and in a few years suddenly Gold on XBL is now a hundred dollars a month while Netflix is seventy and so on. Are online games really worth it? I'm looking at Skyrim, Fallout, and Oblivion. I can play those offline and find hours of enjoyment without other players. If the Internet gets screwed up will games like Destiny be even worth it for anyone who's not wealthy enough to play this game. Some will say yes, get a better paying job. But many kids who play games just can't fit that bill. Perhaps Developers might want to consider solo game experiences again. If you're a reading this you're a gamer, so you might want to check out the current court rulings happening regarding Net Neutrality and form your own opinion. Fear mongering doesn't usually sway me but these things get some media time and then passed to law and then the real pain begins. Anyone have some insight on this and how it will help or hurt games like Destiny and it's always online presence?
