Good afternoon class. Today we will be learning how to convert from base 2, or binary to base 10, or decimal which is what we use everyday.
All you do is multiply the rightmost digit by 2ⁿ, with n=0 for the first digit. Working left to the left digit, multiply that digit by 2ⁿ, with n=0. Add those numbers. You continue this trend for every digit going left with n in 2ⁿ increasing by 1.
Let's look at an example. Convert 0110 to decimal.
The rightmost digit is 0. So you multiply 0 by 2^0, which is 0.
Next digit is 1. 1x2¹=2.
Third digit is 1; 1x2²=4.
And finally the last digit is 0; 0x2³=0.
Now add the results. 0+2+4+0=6.
So 0110 in binary is 6 in decimal.
