Sucks for those who took a break or joined the game late and couldn’t obtain this OP shotty.
I’m also not sure why in a hotfix they returned loot from previous few seasons but didn’t add Felwinter’s Lie to the vault. Like the kids say these days, kinda sus.
EDIT:
So I don’t have to repeat myself to every clueless Jimmies out there that claim how it’s not meta and that are other comparable shotguns. IT IS META. Go to the destinytracker and look up what’s the #1 energy weapon, I dare you. As for comparable shotguns...
Look there, Jimmy, aggressive frame shotguns are the best in slot in Crucible. They have the most consistent 1 shot kill rate out of all types of shotguns. And a godroll with the perfect perks for PvP like tightened barrel, accurized rounds, quickdraw and opening shot is as good as it gets.
There are no other aggressive frame shotguns that would come with quickdraw, let alone all 4 perks. There were mindbender’s but it was a friggin RNG grind that couldn’t guarantee a drop in 10 runs, let alone a good roll. I farmed like crazy for weeks back in the day and didn’t get a single one with quickdraw. And now it’s sunset and not even obtainable anymore.
So now I come to try out a new expansion and realize that the one season I missed everyone got a perfect roll aggressive frame shotgun with a QUEST?! It’s a friggin joke!

People are really missing the point here. OP isn't asking to be "given" Felwinter's, they're asking to be able to earn Felwinter's. For those of you who walked through a five minute quest, congratulations! You got the gun earlier, you got the gun for minimal effort. In fact, Bungie even modified the event - to give you the gun. What OP wants is to be able to earn it. That might be through a Crucible focused ritual quest, or through a set drop after a certain number of high difficulty Nightfalls, or any way that would guarantee obtaining a weapon that others were guaranteed to obtain. It's not "entitlement", it's wanting to have the ability to go and work for a weapon that is very prevalent in the meta. And it is very prevalent in the meta. Especially in 6v6, but also in higher level competitive play, it's one of the best shotguns out there. Very high kill range, energy slot (which is favourable as a lot of meta primaries are kinetic, such as Dire Promise) and leaving your exotic slot free is a godsend if you want to use consistently strong weapons such as The Ace of Spaces. Felwinter's is the most used energy on every single platform, so is, undoubtedly, the meta. I was not actually able to play during Felwinter's release due to deeply personal reasons I don't want to share, but now, a very strong PvP weapon is impossible for me to get. I'm punished for events out of my control that have absolutely no bearing on my skill as a player, just because I wasn't able to play the game during that time window. Stop trying to gatekeep the very content you wanted to remain in the game, and give players the ability to earn (earn, not be given) every weapon that may be relevant into the future. We've already seen this with the Monuments to Lost Light, which offers weapons such as Not Forgotten or Mountaintop that did actually have a relatively high skill requirement to earn. Felwinter's should be no different, especially considering it came from an easy quest, and an event that was modified to be easier. That's not earning it. No, that is getting handed a gun. And then you get upset when other people want to earn that same gun? That blows my mind. TL;DR The stats show Felwinter's is meta, the original quest was laughably easy and the event was made easier by Bungie, and those people who were handed the gun shouldn't gatekeep by saying others shouldn't then be allowed to actually work and earn the gun.
