After playing Destiny for several hours I've become convinced that Bungie has missed the mark with the way the audio is mixed. Let me explain what I mean. When the PS4 was announced one of the more interesting features IMO was the addition of a speaker on the controller. Some games like Resogun and Killzone have used this speaker to relay in game data recording or even talk to the player ala Resogun to immerse the player in an almost 4D audio experience. It's these little touches that really shine. Destiny has already been brilliantly designed to take advantage of the speaker on the Dual Shock 4. The player has a companion that constantly talks to the player. There are data recordings that play back audio, and the little radio beacons make a sonar ping sound when the player gets close by. All of these are great examples where the audio could be played through the Dual Shock 4 Speaker. I especially loved when I fired up Destiny and entered the first dark corridor and the light on the DS4 lit up the room with the light on the ghost. It was such a great a subtle touch. I hope they continue to add in these 4D style immersion elements. It really makes PS4 games stand out from the competition and IMO really adds to the overall experience. Here are some examples I think would be perfect for Destiny: 1. The little radio beacon ping should play through the controller speaker. 2. The radio static/ computer beeps before the ghost speaks dialog should play through the speaker on the controller. IMO this would retain the clarity of the dialog of the high profile star doing the voice over basically reserving it for the home theater system and still add in the 4D immersion element. 3. Any data recordings recovered by the player should play through the DS4 speaker. The ghost seems to be the one translating this info to the player anyway. I could even see the ghost turning to the player and projecting an EQ similar to (R2 projecting princess leia) to the player. Cheers Guys, Love the game so far. Please go that extra mile. I expect to be playing this game for the next 10 years.
