The Chaperone and it's difficulties (PvP)

The Chaperone. If you have the Last Word, chances are you have, had, attempted, quit, accomplished the quest that grants you this shotgun from Amanda Holiday. I just finished this quest yesterday, right on time for the reset after spending about 3 days on it, and I'd like to add my thoughts. I'd like to start by saying that this quest (or mainly it's PvP side) is not difficult. It is however very very time consuming and can be extremely frustrating for the guardian who is: a) Not careful b) Not aware This quest, much like the Thorn bounty back in the day, does not require skill. Only patience and the right strategies. Personally, I struggled all the way to 40% by playing rumble, and I do not recommend it at all. Rumble is a terrible playlist for this overall seeing as you have a smaller chance of winning the game. Winning gives you points (3-4 %). You get points by going on killing streaks with the Last Word equipped. Kills with The Last Word are not required and disequipping it means that any deaths (or kills) will not affect the bounty. So what playlist is best? In my experience, the best playlist is Rift. Why? In Rift, you always spawn and control the same areas with your team. All guardians are focused on the objective instead of kills. But the main reason is, the shape of the maps. Flanking is extremely easy in Rift when the relic is charged as everyone is focused on the center lane. How does this help you? The strategy you want to adopt is that of chaining heavy and supers. Using these two things, flanking the opposing team becomes extremely effective when using long range / multi-use supers and a heavy machine-gun. Do not equip TLW when spawning into the game. Go into the game with weapons you're comfortable with. Why? You want to get kills to charge your super and play the objective to help your team win. For me, I would alternate between MIDA and Hawkmoon. If you're playing solidly, then your super should be up just before heavy spawns. Secure heavy. If you miss heavy then keep playing as normal without TLW equipped. Heavy choice -Jolders Hammer Archetype (4 shot to body/ 3 shot to head) (slow RoF) -Thunderlord Archetype (4 shot body/ 4 shot head) (faster RoF) I recommend the latter as it takes the same amount to kill with headshots as without. This means that precision is not needed and a less skilled player with this lighter machine gun will outgun a Jolders weilding foe if the foe misses one headshot. If the foe misses a single headshot, he must fire another. That coupled with the slower RoF means that as long as you're hitting him, he's dead first. Important Note: Equip TLW after having secured heavy, not before as you could be rejected. Use the heavy to defend yourself for the time it takes you to get back to the base. Once in your spawn, equip TLW BUT FIRST look at the feed to see if the enemy has activated supers. Equip when clear. Finally, you have the advantage and you can allow yourself to go ham. Once Heavy and super secured, stick to the edge of the map and choose your perfect moment. Take your time and keep your distance. The enemy is focused on forwards. Keep your eyes on radar and your kill feed. At the first sign of an enemy super... run. You have to run constantly. It's more important that you live and keep your assets that to trade with a sunbreaker. Finally: Super Choice All classes have a subclass or two that gives significant PvP advantages. Hunters: -Golden gun is the best super. Death from a distance, it can (sometimes) counter the worst of the other supers and is just by far the most prevalent choice grenade and melee wise as well (tripmine recommended). ~Arcblade is only best on very close quarters maps like Vertigo. Use blink and stay in the air. Keep away from titans. ~Nightstalker is only for the very confident hunter. Titans: -Sunbreaker has best distance, best potential, best resistance. Has fusion grenades. Use it. ~Striker only if you despise Sunbreakers enough to not use it to complete an exotic quest. ~Ward of Dawn is a no. Then again, you do you. Warlocks: -Stormtrance has best range, mobility and kill potential. Use air and blink. ~Nova Bomb has too little a kill potential (realistically) but it can get you out of sticky situations. ~Radiance. Avoid Fireborn. You're trying not to die in the first place. Radiant skin is the best choice although apart from (maybe) the grenades, there's no advantage compared to Stormtrance. TL;DR: Read main points in bold font. Any questions, debates, remarks are welcome! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________- Edit: Thoughts so far are that the guide is comprehensible however there has been one remark about what I said about Rumble not being the best choice. To clarify, What I mean to say is that Rumble is more difficult to win for the lower skilled player especially when using a tactic that requires multiple enemies killed in quick succession whilst having both your super and heavy. This situation is a lot more difficult to come by in this playlist. Edit: From Gaddai Then I found a video that explains why this is happening. Please allow me to add to your guide: While the last word is equipped, other weapons, supers, grenades, will only count if it is a streak kill (double down, triple down, merciless, etc). Single kills do do not count.

 • I did it weeks back and it took me forever. Rift was definitely the easiest because it had choke points. If you haven't don't it yet, though, I would HIGHLY recommend waiting till the next iron banner. Yeah I know that's surprising but here me out. I'm normal PvP there was times that I would put literally an entire clip into someone, every bullet registering, and they wouldn't die. It frustrated me to no end, more so than the black spindle mission the first time it came around (yeah I beat that the first night it was available). I still completed the challenge after a couple controller throws and have had the chaperone since that second week. However, when I took my year two, 310 last word into iron banner, it was like night and day. I averaged over 20 kills a match, most of which were from the last word. It would down people an average of 3-4 shots. It honestly reminded me of how the last word was when I got it the first time in destiny back in September 2014 (back then few other people had it and the only people i would lose a 1 on 1 duel with were the few that had the original, pre-nerf mythoclast... That thing melted me). So in closing, I would say just wait till the next IB. I know everyone wants the chaperone really bad... But to be honest, there are a lot of better legendary shot guns out there. The reload animation is fun to show off/use, but i really only use the gun when I'm not seriously playing and just want to have fun. Have patience and wait... Put your time into infusing a last word, and wait till the level advantages are back. You won't regret it. Sorry for the length lol
