A valid complaint about Lost Sectors

[i][b]tl;dr: Simply put, they need better reward drop rates, if not better rewards altogether. Not Glimmer.[/i][/b] I’m not talking about in regards to the exotics, though many others would like debate over that. What I personally find as a terrible design is how you can run consecutive Lost Sectors, back to back in either Master or Legend difficulties and not get anything but a handful of 5000 glimmer and whatever blue engram drops that you happen to scrape off of the ground while doing them. That doesn’t feel like a reward when you can run literally any other activity, pop a Rainmaker consumable and just farm mob enemies, or bypass that altogether with Rahool and his exchange shop. [u]Problem:[/u] There’s no worthwhile incentive to farm, or even enjoy, L/M Lost Sectors once you get the triumphs or the exclusive exotics, but one could also argue that there wasn’t any incentive before either. [u]Solution:[/u] Add more to the reward pool that isn’t just standard gear that drops from regular enemies elsewhere in the game and remove the Glimmer reward outright. Set the baseline for Enhancement Cores to be the standard drop for Common/Uncommon and put in other mats like Prisms or Alloys alongside the chance for the exclusive exotics. Hell, maybe even throw in higher Exotic Catalyst progression for doing them. As it stands, basic activities across the game need improvements and if every additional season will put a momentary focus on activities like these, then there needs to be some sort of improvements to keep players invested enough to want to do them, even if they’re just side tasks.

  • Ironically enough. Legendary lost sectors are (for the effort input required) one of the most rewarding activities in the game. No other activity in destiny's 8 year history is almost endlessly farmable with a 3-8 minute completion time that has a 25% chance at dropping an exotic in a specific slot. Granted adding additional loot other than exotics would be nice. Maybe more enhancement cores or whatever for killing all the champions

    • Hmm. Put a drop things as: legendary guns of destinations, legendary armor with 65+ stat, exotics armor, shards (not legendary ones), mode's, exotic ships and sparrows from first two years... Everything else should be removed as reward (blue's, glimmer, enhancement cores, designation materials).

    • Agreed! Although I would prefer materials that can’t be properly target farmed like legendary shards or enhancement cores. Ascendant Alloys, perhaps. Also, each completion should award like 20 -25 planetary materials. While I’m not hurting for any of these, I have plenty of friends that could use these.

    • My personal idea would involve solo runs would reward spoils. Then at the end of each LS, the chest would be like a raid chest and whatever the targeted armor slot is that day, you can roll one randomly for less spoils (i.e ~25). Or, personally select one of the armor pieces you want for an increased spoils cost. Maybe a 3rd option for like ~100 spoils to be able to selectively buy a desired armor piece with guaranteed 65+ base stat spread with the tier 2 option having a chance to get a high stats drop but not guaranteed.

    • Just ran the crew quarters lost sector last night, first 6 drops were exotic and then I went on a near 15 completion drought. It is so inconsistent

      See I get where you're coming from, but then that might take away from the Nightfall activities based on its design and reward system. Not sure what else to suggest. As far as understanding goes, they also meant to help with acquiring the "newer" Exotics as well, are they not? What if there was chances of Bright Dust piles being given? Wouldn't that work as well? I say this since we can get those consumables that give us a guaranteed Upgrade Module and Enhancement Core, too. Trying to think more with what might be synergistic. Maybe tie a weekly Pinnacle to them? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • This is the kind of complaint I was waiting for, yes the drop chance is bad. But since you can only get a couple things from them it feels really unrewarding to farm them. Adding alloys to them even if it was a rare drop would make crafting a bit easier.

      • Something is really broken, last season was not so bad but this season is just stupid. I'm not going to count but I've done properly 60 over different characters and planets.... trying again now Hoarfrost or Hallowfire for my titan. But I have not had one single exotic drop since beginning of the season where it dropped the new low stat exotics. This is pretty much a con! You can't rely on xur because 99% of the time he's pointless and open world is rear and Will drop the most pointless exotic. And the fanboy that will spark up about GMs been there done that and the gilded I have done has always been either duplicate time and time again or just another pointless exotic that shouldn't even be in the game.

        • Imo, there shouldn’t be exotics that are exclusive to lost sectors, but instead, exotics that drop out in the world should be random (as in, not guaranteed to be something you don’t have) while lost sectors would be able to give ANY exotic and would be guaranteed to give one you don’t already have. Additionally, they should have a much higher drop rate for exotics in general

            Yaaay an enhancement core. When I could literally pop matterweave in a single gambit match and come out with 50+ Edit: Honestly if the glimmer reward was larger I would even be happy with that. In place of receiving an exotic, 4 legendary shards and a small chunk of glimmer doesn't seem comparable.

          • They serve no purpose other than for trying to obtain the newest exotics. I'm gonna be that guy here and I know Bungie won't like to hear it but it's the truth. It's a shallow attempt for Bungie to make old destinations have value. To be completely blunt if they want to see more usage out of them......they need to do 2 things. Give Legend an acceptable drop rate but always have enhancement cores as a 100% drop. The Exotic should still drop alongside them. Then you take Master and improve on the drop rate and have it drop prisms and shards.

          • If they make those lost sectors WAY harder, yes lets add rewards. But since you can complete those lost sectors in 1min most of the time with very few efforts... Id say the rewards are fine according to the difficulty.

          • They are not supposed to be farmed. Their primary objective is to unlock exotics you haven't obtained yet.

The fun factor is subjective although I don’t think anyone has ever gone into Lost Sectors with fun in mind lol. Enhancement Cores are very plentiful already, hell I had approximately two hundred drop for me yesterday alone while I was farming arms. However the addition of something like Alloys would be nice. Even future catalyst drops for existing exotic weapons would be a good addition. I’ve seen the videos and the statistics people have tried to compile but in all honesty I’ve personally had really good luck farming Masters to the point where I’ve been swimming in exotics. At the end of the day it’s all RNG. Some days are better than others. They could buff the drops a bit but it’ll never be anything major if they do. I feel like a lot of people either weren’t around or have forgotten what it was like prior to Bungie making the changes that they did to LS’s. Exotic drops were scarce to say the least. I can understand complaints to a degree but when all is said and done we were literally given a clear cut way to farm exotic armour which is tremendously helpful when putting together builds and people still complain about it. This game, just like every other simile game or looter shooter,is grindy and RNG based. That’s literally just the nature of the beast when it comes to this type of genre.

When lost sectors take 2-5 minutes, that’s plenty high enough. I do agree about other items dropping. The main incentive should remain exotics though.

                • Are you validating your own complaint or is this a poorly cited quote? When I saw one sentenced being fluffed into several paragraphs I realized reading beyond that first sentence was a waste. Even if your point is valid (not saying it is) your presentation is severely lacking.

                  • I think some more choices to select exotics you don't want are super important to making the lost sectors feel better to farm. Being 3+ hours in on a farm and not even getting the exotic armor piece you wanted, let alone even having the stats you want.

                  • I used to farm lost sectors for specific weapon drops. Ether doctor for instance specifically dropped from the weep or sky dock. I used to farm them for ages trying to get the right roll. (Ironically got a god roll the week before DCV). But the lure to grind was there for that particular weapon. Considering the volume of legendary weapons. It would be good to have a rotation of drops on whatever the lost sector was. You can even create incentive by suggesting that master is a guaranteed drop of a particular weapon. And it may have additional rolls attached to it, due to master clearance. Or have it ties to your vanguard rank. Atm. I use lost sectors just to clear some triumphs for a flawless and master etc or for exotics every season. But once I get them. I feel no need to grind Lost Sectors again.
