The "Checkered Game of Life as it was called was originally released in 1860 after inventor Milton Bradley, was nearly Bankrupted from printing and selling portraits of Abraham Lincoln. The plates he had, did not feature Lincoln with a beard, as he was later known to sport; and therefore did not sell well. It's believed the Game of Life was inspired by the failure of this venture. 3. By 1861 MB had sold over 45,000 copies of the game, in which the original goal was not to be the most successful but "Live a good Life" it was commonly bundled with other board games sent to Union Soldiers during the Civil War. 4. MB officially panteted the game in 1866 5. The game of Life has undergone many changes over the years, but the most pronounced changes came after MBs death in 1911, when the design of " the Game of Life transitioned from a focus on a board game of Moral education and virtue, to a board game of escapism. 6. I hate the Game of Life; I think it's the worst piece of arbitrary bullshit ever developed but it is interesting to see how things come to be, so there you have it... shitty board game born out of shitty times.
