I think that Taox, the betrayer of Oryx's father is inside the Traveller.

Taox was never found once she fled Fundament. They new she wasn't dead but they still had absolutely no idea what happened to her. At the same time, the divine Traveller also fled Fundament and abandoned its former servants the Ammonites. They were able to wield its light just as we are. The plan was to ride the Traveller but it left before they had a chance. Possibly piloted by Taox, who knows.
