Edit: Several people pointed out that I could have just let go of the trigger to stop spinning. While this is true, it was ~1:00 AM when this happened, and I was too tired to notice what was going on. I only noticed at around the 16 second mark and at that point I was just stunned about what was happening and the first thing that came to mind was to self-destruct my sparrow with it's boost.
Edit 2: We've been trending. I got my S Class today!

Same thing happened to me in the final stretch of the race. I was in first, I hit a bump, I flipped around a bunch, I die, I respawn, I'm in last. It happens all the time :(
