PTFO should be rewarded far more than anything else. If it's control, flags captured should be weighted higher than kills. TDM etc where it's all about kills should be KDR times by kills over kills alone OR KDR alone. Rewards should be tiered from top to bottom. I like the random one in a 1xxxxxx chance for a random player to grab a legend/exotic item, but not if the top players get nothing. Having the one off rewards helps encourage players still learning to give it a go, having tiered rewards encourages good players to keep playing.
Or as suggested below, have a specific prize money per place for winners and lesser amounts per place for losers, and this currency is used to buy engrams/items. Could just reward crucible marks, but remove the weekly cap of 100.
