I have a level 30 Hunter. Hard mode they are useless. 1. Golden gun does NOT one hit oracles in hard mode. 2. There is no soloing portals in hard mode. And 3. Poor defense makes them terrible relic wielders in hard mode. So yes. On baby VoG they are sufficient. It takes serious experience and a good team to run through Hard VoG with more than two hunters. And I love my Hunter. But speed just isn't as useful as a lovely bubble shield with weapons of light or fire born to give your team a fighting chance where there are no respawns or revives.

If you shoot oracles as they spawn it's a one shot.

Fyi golden gun does 1 shot oracles on hard mode you just have to shoot them as they are appearing at least in the atheon fight they do not sure on templar portion haven't tried it out

No soloing portals on hard mode? Seriously? I do that all the time. Two or three hits with maxed gjallarhorn and the gatekeeper is dead. We usually snag both relics at the same time like that, it's way easier. 2 guys on each pad, one man in each portal. When we get out everyone rushes the center. By far the easiest way to do the portals on hard mode. You don't have to kill the adds in the portal (except the one that spawns by the relic), just kill the gatekeeper and run past them. Actually the hunter is best suited for this because it is so quick. But honestly any class can do it

I can solo a gatekeeper portal 100% of the time as a level 30 titan in hard mode.

You are not a good hunter then, they are not useless. Want to challenge my point why did the 2 people who two manned VOG both hard and normal use a hunter and a warlock and not a Titan? It does not require experience only skill your team is just trash we have ran VOG hard with 5 hunters and easily cleared. And yes speed kills if you are not getting hit you are not taking damage, learn to keep moving and hit on the run.

Just need the right gun, fully upgraded corrective measure kills them in less than 10 bullets. Not saying I disagree, just that hunters are as good as any other class for vault and vice versa.

It requires GOOD GEAR that's all. And a good Hunter? I complete raids without difficulty. Just simply stating that hunters are at a disadvantage although minimal
