A Wild Gringo has appeared
So ever since RoI has been confirmed, the SIVA technological plague has been of much discussion. And all we know so far is:
It is somehow related to the Warminds
It was built in the Golden Age
The Iron Lords died trying to contain it
The Fallen wanted/ got it.
Other than that we don't know much.
Now I was looking at a Barron's Ambition (Machine gun from SABER) with the description:
"To crack open that depraved Earth-Servitor. To use its secrets to reclaim the Great Machine..." —Translated from Fallen Language
For those of you who don't know, the "Great Machine" is the Fallen way of saying "Traveler". This has been confirmed several times over.
The stranger part is "That depraved Earth- Servitor". Now most people assumed it was Rasputin, a large computer like a Servitor, but I believe it is much more literal. Let me explain.
The point of the Strike is to stop the Devils from bypassing Rasputin and gaining access to his Warsats (the meteor things). This we know. What Zavala assumes is that the fallen wanted to use them to destroy the City, but this makes no sense in actuality. Destroying the city would at least severely damage their Great Machine and more so it doesn't relate to Barron's Ambition. They are not in fact "cracking open" Rasputin, just going around him. I believe they wanted the Warsats to actually crack open a servitor. This one http://imgur.com/B9aOIqk
Bungie's description of the Plaigue Lands is as follows:
This area near the Cosmodrome has been quarantined for centuries. Now the Devil Splicers have broken through the walls, dug deep into the earth and found technology of almost limitless power. The Splicers are using this forbidden technology – SIVA – to transform the region to fit their twisted desires.
Take a note to the "dug deep underneath the earth" part because it plays a big role in my theory. What if the Fallen had discovered this "Servitor" (http://imgur.com/B9aOIqk) that was made by the Warminds (post colapse so their respurces were limited to what they had nearby). They wanted to open it but couldn't. They tried to access the Warminds to destroy it and get inside and find what laid below. Our destruction of their plans held them off for a year, but they eventually got in anyways. When inside, what they discovered was the SIVA, and from there is Rise of Iron.
It makes sense because this image http://imgur.com/B9aOIqk is often used in tandem with the raid, which Bungie stated involves going underground to stop the SIVA at its heart.
What do you think? Did I leave something out or do you believe I am horrible wrong?

Whelp looks like I did myself a wrong
-
The devil's have been looking for Siva for a long time it's in a card
-
While this is a well put together theory, I disagree. I believe the Servitor they're referring to is Sepkis. And the secrets discovered via their old tech found in the Servitor resulted in SABER
-
When I read depraved earth servitor, I thought it meant SIVA itself, depraved being a word for corruption and servitors being machines/computers, when the eliksni see our warminds and computers they equate them to servitors, so since SIVA is a technoplague, it makes sense for them to call it both a sevitor & depraved
-
I just posted a theory about how the Hive try to access SIVA as early as The Dark Below https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/206807141/0/0

I believe there is an even more evil intention at stake. "Saber" is called S.A.B.E.R. It is obviously an acronym. For what? For SIVA Almighty Bringer of Enhancements to Randal. That's right. Saber was bringing back Randal the Vandal - enhanced by SIVA.

Personally I subscribe to the theory that the strike was staged by Rasputin. Incase you don't know the theory is that Rasputin creates the modified shank and is in control of it and the fallen in the strike we captured by Rasputin (or lured in). The theory is supported in a few places. During the defending of the Warsat at the start why do we A) have to crack a code to gain access to the vault and B) need to access the vault If it was imperative we help Rasputin could have GIVEN us the code or just opened the doors like he does in other missions. What's more is Nolan bot says it's like Rasputin is testing him. The theory is that he's testing us to make sure that we^(referring to either us as a guardian or us as a race) are ready to wield the power Rasputin has or to ensure we have grown enough to assume direct control over the warmind as we did in the golden age. Further evidence to this is the fact that it's a shank and not a servitor. On Venus in the lab the fallen try to hack in using servitors. So why a shank here? Finally the shanks name S.A.B.E.R 1 doesn't seem like the kind of name Elsinki come up with. It does however sound like the kind of thing humans would come up with, and since rasputin was made by us it stands to reason that he names things like us. Also the whole engagement room looks like a manufacturing facility and there St happens to be a door the perfect size in the floor.....
-
Or you just went off on the wrong path. Sepiks Prime is one of the highest levels of servitor coding and technology that it has hoarded secrets by studying the golden age technology and has secrets that it has used to try and explore on how to reclaim the Traveler.
-
I think there are tacos hidden in Rasputin and that is why fallen tried (and did) break into it. I mean, who wouldn't want tacos?
-
Yeah I always thought that Baron's Ambition text would hint at something.
-
What I thought when they said earth serviter they meant the traveler
-
What if the servitor is the raid location?
-
I agree somewhat with your theory but I don't agree based off of the same evidence. Servitors are indeed computers such as Rasputin along with actual fallen servitors. However, the "servitor" in the picture in the picture looks like a normal fallen servitor. I don't see Rasputin making something that looks so similar to a fallen servitor just by coincidence. The thing has fallen servitor details such as being a big sphere with a central "eye", and it looks somewhat scrapped together. When I looked at it, I'm pretty sure I saw what appeared to be broken airplane wings attached to the side. The fallen are scavengers, and I'm pretty sure we have seen multiple fallen structures made of or using human technology. My guess is that SIVA is some virus created by Rasputin or humans during the golden age that got sealed away like everything else after the collapse and that the fallen stumbled upon it by chance. After all, a lot of the Devils probably migrated out of the cosmodrome after the destruction of Sepiks Prime. While they were looking for a new home they could have found SIVA. I think the giant servitor looking thingy in the screenshot is something created by the fallen, either for aesthetic purposes or to function as their new prime. Just my thoughts.

If this thing is inside the city walls, why can't I see from the tower? Pretty confident something that big would be visible.
-
This makes sense. I'm just disappointed we don't get to see the House of Kings.
-
You like Fried Chicken, You like Waffles. Now put them together. BOOM! ! Chicken n Waffles!

I think saber was the devils strike to get rasputin but there were 2 strikes going on at the same time, another one on siva. The problem was siva is a dead warmind wheras rasputin could send a distress signal
-
So the SABER strike was to open up that servitor. But Rasputin sent a distress call so that we could stop them. It doesn't make sense who Rasputin is helping. Us? Or the fallen?
-
I think they already had SIVA since that was way back before our time. They were just trying their hand at hacking Rasputin.
-
Servitors are fallen gods. The earth servitor was sepiks
-
Totally makes sense
-
Here's a mind blowing bit of info. There is no -blam!-ing story. Nerds.
-
That's actually not a bad theory.
-
It's makes more sense for the earth servitor to be rasputin, as they would interpret him as a servitor as he has the exact same functionality, and he is the one who crippled the traveler
-
I thought the "depraved earth servitor" was sepiks
-
I thought Sepiks was the Earth-Servitor...
