So I had been considering doing something like this before.
I've continued pushing this point and no matter what the trolls say, I'm not stopping and neither should anyone else who feels the same way.
ALL YEAR 1 LEGENDARY AND EXOTIC WEAPONS AND ARMOR SHOULD CONTINUE TO ASCEND.
Kackis on Year 1 Legendaries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8WX1fSimWM
Kackis on Year 1 Exotics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4b5Jj6xGxQ
There is just simply NO REASON for them not to continue onward going forward. It shouldn't be a decision that is FORCED on anyone. It shouldn't be all about having the new stuff compete with the old but rather designing new innovative weapons that will compliment and go along with what is already available. There is NOTHING WRONG with having MORE OPTIONS AND VARIETY. It adds that level of diversity which the game has been desperately needing since the start.
LOOK. If you are going to design the game around a Loot Driven Experience where the primary reason for people to play the game is to go around grinding for weapons and armor (Vendors/Raids/Iron Banner/POE/etc.) and then a year later decide AGAINST allowing them to continue bringing those things into the newer content? Then you effectively RUIN that first year's worth of experience and make everyone feel as though their time and hard work has been UTTERLY POINTLESS.
Did people have fun playing with others and make friends? Yes. However, its important to remember that YOU CAN GET THAT EXPERIENCE IN ANY ONLINE GAME. It is by no means exclusive to Destiny in the least and the ONLY reason the vast majority of folks did it at all in this game was for the common goal of getting desired loot.
Am I wrong? If every player in the game had instant access to every Legendary and Exotic in the game, how many do you think would have honestly spent as much time as they did in the game?
And like I have explained so many times before, telling us that Year 1 Weapons/Armor will still have a place in Year 1 Content means NOTHING. How many people do you really think did Vault of Glass over and over again JUST to get a Fatebringer for the sole purpose of spending the next 10 years using it to keep redoing VOG? No, of course not. They got it like the rest of their weapons so that they could bring everything WITH THEM on their 10 year adventure. That's why people WANTED increased Vault Space because many are collectors or specialists who enjoy having an expansive arsenal at their disposal.
And our Year 1 accomplishments aren't found in some emblem or a black shader, but in the weapons and armor that we quested for.
As the saying goes; "Become Legend."
Our Legend is directly tied to our gear and that includes Year 1, Year 2, 3, 4 and all the way up for as long as Destiny lives. Take that away and what are we?
If I wanted a game where I consistently reset my progress all the time, I'd just play Call of Duty with their lame ass Prestige nonsense. Don't we want MORE from Destiny than some cheap COD knockoff?
With all that said, I encourage anyone who feels the same or who has posts talking about the same to add #infusionforall to their threads. I've already marked my relevant posts with the new tag. I chose this simply because lets face it, the new Infusion System that Bungie revealed in their first Twitch stream totally just SCREAMS Year 1 Gear Ascension. I honestly believe that allowing players the option to use ANY Legendary to Infuse with another Legendary to boost its damage/defense rating (Regardless of them being from Year 1 or Year 2), is the PERFECT answer to resolve this problem.
Same goes for the Exotics too, because even though we've seen what was written in Edge? You're going to be making NEW "Year 2 Versions" of those Year 1 Exotics. They won't be the exact same, meaning its going to be either hit or miss with folks. By all means, I totally advocate the concept making Year 2 Versions of all current Exotics, but players should still be given the option to keep upgrading the original versions as well.
That is why I say #INFUSION FOR ALL...
This is an important issue that deserves attention until something is done about it. Truth.
God Bless.
EDIT: Add the #infusionforall tag to your post and add it to the listing! https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Topics/0/1/0/infusionforall
EDIT #2: Guys, "Power Creep" honestly isn't that big of a problem. Don't be so quick to jump to this conclusion, its not as if Bungie themselves have given this as an answer. At this point its just others in the community speculating and in all seriousness its an easy fix.

Edited by RedWingGirl: 10/18/2015 3:42:37 PMI agree. I shake my head when I go to xur and he's selling vanilla exotic armor at year 2 light levels that I already have in my vault. Some of which I already spent the 7000 glimmer to upgrade when that was a thing. I don't know if they can't figure out how to let us upgrade our stuff to year 2, or if they believe the grind to get the same gear at level two somehow prolongs the experience. Either way, once again I look like everyone else with my highest level raid armor and I hate that I can't just apply "light" to whatever I want and be original by either rolling my prefered weapon and armor perks, and or at least apply the needles to all gear. Including blues which in some cases look better. I can guarantee I was the 1st person to apply etheric light to my titans queens helmat. I went into skolas with that on and I was original at the tower. There's no incentive to be original in this game. It's really lacking on the theme of being legend and it's disappointing looking at my vault collection where I have every set of raid and iron banner collection for all three characters and the rarest guns. And why doesn't all the shaders work on all the armor? Ugh, this game...

The game should keep expanding and diversifying while keep old content meaningful or providing and outlet to make old content useful for current game aka introduce new content into old content and make old content be useful for current present time This makes past grinding rewarding still and gives a huge variety to new players as well as old 1. Etheric light Lets players choose wether or not they want to ascend or infuse old gear to new standards 2. Old missions and raids Introduce new level modifiers for current max lvls and for this lvls provide new rewards relevant to new content In this case VOG LVL40 with vog styled sword, sidearm, ghost(vex skin)with perhaps some new armor CROTA LVL 40 Crota styled sword, sidearm, ghost(black with the 3 green eyes) with perhaps some new armor Basically the same for HOW 3. Also don't take away the wolves and blades maybe make them happen a little less but keep them in game and present more of them For instance maybe to roaming cabal troops Or Radom hive drop ships Just some quick ideas that would definitely make me pick up new dlc Making all my year 1 content obsolete and irrelevant has made me decide I don't want to continue if everything I get will be made obsolete later Yes people should try out the new stuff but let that be the players choice and not have the choice forced upon them Guardian out pass on that revive to the next one ghost

Edited by I 4M M3G47R0N: 9/2/2015 4:28:42 PMI couldn't agree more! I want to be able to ascend any legendary or exotic of my choice. If bungie makes better weapons or more unique weapons then I'll use them too. But the point is, I want the choice. I want to be able to roll with whatever is going to be the best weapon/armor for the situation. Plus, I want to look awesome. There's a good chance the some of the new stuff with be good, and most of it will be vanilla. The more I can customize the player to who I am and how I play, the more fun the game is, and more identifiable the character I spent so many hours creating becomes. I don't want to tear down my characters anymore because I know what went into it to make it awesome. In fact, I wouldn't mind having another slot or two to make a couple more. I really hope Bungie reads this and takes it seriously. I really want the awesome guns of year 1 in future years, along with the awesome guns of the next years! #INFUSION FOR ALL I just completed my exotic collection Tuesday evening after running my 41st Crota hard mode to get the Crux to drop. I have every raid weapon from VoG and Crota, all the Exotic Armor for every class and from every DLC, and I have also had just about... If not all... Legendaries the game has to offer. Mind you I have close to 1000 hours in the game. I will not dismantle my prized collection of weapons EVER. No matter how cramped my vault and Guardians get. Even with the extra space I cannot rightfully dispose of anything I feel I worked very hard to find or have dropped on me luckily. It took me over 700 hours before I got my 1st Gjally and my son had like 70 hours in, but that makes his no less important to him than mine does to me. I feel we should be able to wear our armor and weapons proudly into the new DLC as a show of our right to passage. Our Grimoire score is another thing that shows what we have into this game. Do they reset that because of creep... NO! We get a badge (Emblem) for our Triumph status and for our Year 1 participation as well as a Shader and Sparrow, but what would be cooler than having someone new to the game see your coveted IB or BH or Gjally put in work like a boss and say to you in chat "What is that and how do I get one?" Keep the year one weapons alive in year 2 PLEASE BUNGIE!!!!

Can you explain power creep

Ummm? Too busy Infusing Breast Cancer mate.

Still bumping

New content and new experiences should be the incentive to keep players coming back. This theme of making us regrind for the same gear every few months is getting tiresome.

You can still use your old gear. It won't be as effective. But it's there.

Edited by SpacemanSpff434: 10/3/2015 6:17:22 PMI'm going to respectfully say no. At first I was in this camp but now I believe bungie made the right move. 1) the game is more fun without gally for me. Playing the bosses instead of spamming them is fun. 2) the new armor is far better than year 1. Better perks and more options. 3) it's been fun being forced to find new weapons, and as a result I think some of the new guns are great. I really don't miss fate bringer, vision of confluence or any the older guns. Mostly because I have replaced them with better or equal weapons (I know heresy). I have a hand cannon with firefly. I have a steady full auto scout that is great in pve and pvp. I have very good snipers. I mean, fine if it is important to you but honestly give the new guns a shot and you may make the same discoveries I have. But seriously, year two armor is better. That's not even debatable.

Did have sympathy for this view but after playing TTK I now Respectfully disagree. I couldn't imagine a world without my beloved VoC and beautiful ghally before playing TTK. Now it all makes perfect sense - I am happy they are above the fire place and I can keep my fond memories of battles and fun past. This Guardian is creating havoc with an entirely new weapon set - the roll on my 1000 yard is godly ! I get you need to ascend your yr1 one - folks who are not playing TTK clearly want this - however as a year two Guardian - year 1 weapons are fond trophies. Glad I got em but don't wanna use 'em.

I completely agree my whole problem with the expansion is the fact of the loss of our raid gear that was earned by dozens of runs through the raids. This is not an mmo in the traditional sense so the old all gear becomes obsolete argument is irrelevant. There simply is not enough gear to make up for the loss of old gear. I'm sure not one person playing traditional mmo games enjoys loosing the functionality of their old raid gear. Most mmo also have a incredible amount of gear/weapons in them. Destiny does not. Also having to infuse a weapons from ~150 to 300 is not a trivial task. This in and of itself should keep older weapons from dominating people's inventories for the next several months.

Bump You the real MVP

Terrible idea
-
No just no they did that for a reason why would we use weapons from year one they're inferior
-
Well said, taken King changed some things in destiny for the better however the new levelling system of random chance to get 310 gear even when completing the raid out weighs everything else if this doesn't change soon I'll be moving on. Was heart breaking deleting all my precious raid weapons and armor. Star Wars and fall out 3 will do me for 6 months I feel

BUMP variety among armor and weapons! bring back oldweapons and gear!! make this competitive with other MMORPGS you got the FPS down.

It's simply not going to happen. So let it go. They are two steps ahead of all you guys with intelligent people doing things like this for one reason only. To get people to keep paying. The only way they will hear you is if you stop talking and stop playing.
