Preface edit: I want to edit this and start by saying I LOVE THIS GAME! I spend 2+ hours in the world, every day almost, helping my friends and family reach their Destiny goals. I also frequently check the Help forums to guide players on their journey to become legend.
I followed the development of this game very closely. I'd check IGN, Game Informer, Gamespot, Kotaku, etc..every day, multiple times a day looking for any little detail I could find. I was obsessed, and drooling at the mouth to learn more.
Videos such as these had an undeniable magic to them. As many people have pointed out, not much changed....but the magic is undeniably absent in the final product. Before you point out that this demo is very similar to the final product, keep in mind that I know this. There's this unexplainable magic in these Vidocs. There are also a lot of things that developers said during these videos that just aren't true.
Original post follows....
About once every 4 months I watch this video. During its development, Destiny was shaping up to be a lot better than it was and still is. I love this game.
I just don't want people, or Bungie, to forget how epic this game was turning out. Maybe someday it'll more closely resemble what they were shooting for. The public event madness, the ginormous "playable space", exotics dropping from mini-bosses, ships blasting by to drop off their Guardians....there is so much in this video that makes me wish Bungie would have spent more time developing the game. Oh well.
Here you go Guardians, enjoy what was almost and here's to hoping for the future of our game.

Ceecko shared this video as well regarding "playable terrain":

All that space in Old Russia is playable. The world actually is huge... but they put invisible walls so they can sell the rest of the world in DLCs.
-
It sounds to me that the playable world part is their future game. Not the starting game. And I hope to see the playable worlds at some point. I'm sure it will be in a future DLC. I didn't see much difference otherwise.
-
Playable space... That might actually be playable.... Once they finally ditch last gen consoles!
-
Watching these old gameplays and trailers makes me so sad... all that wasted potential
-
Lol the hunters name was Oryx.
-
I sucks to see what the game could of been. I mean it was probably going to be legendary or GOTY. Destiny probably would have also changed the gaming industry a bit. Wish I could go back in time and warn Bungie about this.

Anyone notice the warlock with a knife? They did one thing right guys
-
If i had 4 wheels, I would be a wagon.
-
So people expect nothing to change from alpha to the final release of a game 2 years later? What a bunch of -blam!-ing idiots.
-
WTF. "See all that? That will be playable space" Why the -blam!- would the remove the open world aspect of the game that would have made it so cool.
-
Bump for later
-
Seeing the voidwalker throw the hunters incendiary grenade was mind blowing since I've played destiny since release and never seen this video
-
Ok let's see here: All that explorable space. GONE! The way people join in the world with their ship GONE! Uses of Ghost other than a door opener and surprisingly interesting Dialouge of Dinklebot GONE! Holster guns GONE! Explosive Rounds and other perks on Thunderlord that actually looked better than our current one. GONE! Balcony where the level 20's jumped down for the public event GONE! Lots of other sh!t GONE! Don't get me wrong I still play the game however bungie could've made this experience a hell of a lot better. I mean we needed more content than what we got on release ffs!

Handcannon secondary please

What it almost was? I think it's pretty damn close. Instead of bungie doing part of a mission since they are on a timed reveal during e3. They put a bunch of cool stuff from the game into a explorable area so you have an idea of what your getting into. Instead of being lost not understanding what was going on by showing the first 5 minutes of a strike. Notice that it's a crucible map on patrol. They were trying to show you that engrams drop. They dropped an exotic to show the exotics in the game. Granted some stuff didn't make it in but maybe it wasn't ready like the Titan grenade you speak of how much of this stuff are people like you on the forums complaining this is OP or this is broken. Maybe they didn't release it on launch cause they couldn't get it right and already knew how the bungie community is since it started with halo.
-
Wtf what happened to this destiny??
-
Such ignorance
-
What I got from the post is OP watches an outdated video every 4 months and then acts like a heart broken ex girlfriend....
-
Anyone notice the pvp map bannerfall at the end?
-
I bought the wrong game.
-
When he tossed the grenade, the grenade that look a lot like the new titan one.... Awkward
-
I don't see all the hype for these videos. The only thing that I'd say was false marketing is the "huge world", the "all that is playable area" stuff... I went back out to the starting area outside the wall just now and the background scenery looks very different to 2013. Lot less depth and detail... But gameplay wise... What are people missing? Elites casually dropping Thunderlords while on Patrol?
-
Wow... it hasn't changed that much. Thanks for wasting my time :)
-
All I got from this is how much better the game is from this old clip, and how he should learn to use the scopes for a reason and not hip fire everything
