Why are we fighting the Red Legion? Again
Are the Solstice events canon? They've always had an unserious tone to them but nothing to imply it isn't real. So what's the lore to us being attacked there if that's the case?
Most importantly, why are we fighting the Red Legion again?Are they not our allies?
To my understanding, the Red Legion committed themselves to Caitl, who is our ally. So why do we keep killing these guys. Witch Queen I had the same problem. The first mission we are just slaughtering Red Legion simply for being on Mars yet Caitl doesn't seem to care that we continue to carry out friendly fire attacks against her troops.
Personally, I would just reskin the Cabal and create a new Legion of either Calus aligned proxies or independent raider cabal in order to avoid this issue.

4 RepliesI've never considered seasonal activities such as the EAZ to be cannon or to be taken seriously. They're just meant to be a fun activity to break up the monotony. After all, in about 2-3 months we're most likely going to have haunted lost sectors again fighting giant pumpkin head wearing enemies. Probably best to not worry about the lore of how that's possible. :)

4 RepliesThe rest of the Red Legion that didn't join Caiatl are ultimately deserters, which is who we typically fight now. We could probably just call them the Legionless at this point despite their former colors.

1 ReplyWhen we fight them in witch queen we aren't allied with the cabal so much as we are in a truce with them. We ally with them during season of the risen with the condition that any further guardian hostility toward them will terminate the alliance. The second time we fight them in witch queen at the pyramid on Europa caital makes it clear that the cabal we face them aren't on our side bc they are raiding the it for pyramid tech to gain favor with calus, who is 100% caitals enemy at that point. It's been implied that the red legion we fight since then are deserters or raiders that are legionless, this is evidenced by red legion colored cabal allying with the pirate fallen in season of plunder. I wish they had reskinned the cabal in that opening mission of witch queen though, it would've made things much clearer as to what's going on there, but it probably wasn't worth it to Bungie to create new assets for just that one mission (although I would disagree with that, it shows a lack of quality to just throw red legion in when they are caitals legion.) All the cabal we fight alongside are wearing the blue armor of caitals legion, so I think that's the canon appearance of our allies at this point, and any cabal wearing red legion colors are deserters that are hostile to us.
