New Viking Funeral (Updated)

In a whole bunch of negativity towards the new update I would like to say that the Viking Funeral change was good. Not a nerf or a buff but just a change. It opens up new scenarios and takes a bit more skill to use. To Bungie I say good job and I am excited for the future. ([b]Update:[/b] My opinion may have changed (see edit2) but I still support Bungie in their development and I am still excited for the future.) [spoiler][b]Edit1:[/b] Apparently one of the top 50 players on trials (wow I'm so amazed) tells me that I don't know what I'm talking about and that people like me ruin the game. So now, people who just enjoy the game and would like tell Bungie that they enjoy the game are ruining the game. If this happens a lot here then this community is way worse off than I originally suspected. [b]Edit2:[/b] Despite my optimism, I am beginning to believe that Sunsingers are effectively useless in PVP. I ran full ignite build since I first maxed out Sunsinger (a very long time ago). I saw the need to adjust Viking Funeral and I was fine with it but it is now useless in PVP. You get a single damage point more from the new perk. Not only that but my Solar grenade, which I've used since first level 15, is effectively useless, I'm not sure how because it wasn't in the patch notes but it is not nearly as strong as it used to be. You get 14 points for impact then the AOE is doing maybe 2-5 points per interval. This is useless. The AOE (the thing that makes the grenade special) does not kill even when they are at at less than half health because people will realize what they are standing in and move. I will have to start getting some better Voidwalker gear because I don't see a way to build Sunsinger for PVP anymore. Maybe the Crucible is better with out fire wielding Warlocks, it is just another hurdle to jump over as a player.   • Viking funeral is useless in pvp and burn is only useful to track a player running. With no longer being able to extend burn time makes tracking a player useless as it only lasts a few seconds With that being said the only viable option for pvp is extending radiance instead of vf and gift of the sun for dbl nades. I personally feel that 2 nades is a weak option as the second grenade cool down is too long(only useful in radiance) so we really have no good option in the last row perks... Flame shield is still the only viable option and you will still win ur melee battles as long as u get the first strike otherwise ull most likely die before ur shield triggers due to the delay Firebolts still work but take more aim but the weaker option Solar nades only good for control points I think fusion grenades is the best option right now Sunsinger is not useless just not the best option anymore... People will still use them in trials simply for the rez but i think we will be seeing alot more void and storm locks moving forward which is a good thing. I main a sunsinger and was bummed at nerfs but when u see a game moving in a direction that offers more diversity in class choices it is a good direction.

    • I think they should just replace firebolts with a different grenade, they seem to be pretty bad now and IMO dot on a grenade like the firebolts shouldn't be a thing.

        My only issue with it is the new debuff effect doesn't last very long, nor is it big enough to really make a noticeable difference. It needs to be at least 10-15% per stack, and last at least 5-7 seconds. It barely lasts 3 seconds, and 5% is nothing compared to Melting Point. Stacking it 3 times only brings it up to half the effectiveness of it. And what's the deal with Solar Grenades? They seem weaker than they were before the update, and the effect of Viking Funeral only seems to activate on the initial impact of this grenade when you first toss it, and doesn't apply anytime after that, even if other enemies who didn't get hit with it initially walk through it after it's set. It would be more effective if it could still apply the debuff effect and burn after it's been thrown. [spoiler]correction, make that 2 issues[/spoiler]

      • I'm actually surprised people are complaining about. I remember people saying how warlocks weren't very helpful or needed in raids or PvE activities. Now they can stack increased damage to big targets. It's a must have on any team.

        • Bungie is a bunch of wiener grabbers. They probably all live in SF and hide in closets. It's one thing to promote change like th meta thing they do. It's another to force it and say "we don't care what you like we care what we like.". This is a special kind of freedom killing communist. I change my mind they probably live in Berkeley.

                  I wish they changed Touch of Flame to last more than just 3 seconds. Old VF extended it by 7-9 seconds. It's like "Blink and You'll miss it" for the VF dmg buff. Plus a 5% buff is barely noticeable. Thats like 2095 - 2100 for a crit. Say Touch of Flame burns you at 7 ticks for 3 seconds. (which is what it use to do) but the dmg buff from VF lasts an addition 5 seconds. If it stacks up to 3x in PvP, face it, the dude is long far dead before that would even happen.                     Viking funeral absolutely melts bosses now it's like pre Nerf galley. I've never seen anything like it I pretty much melted the shield brothers strike. I'm overjoyed it was a buff that's for sure. I'm running Max intellect Max discipline build

                    • No. No it is not helpful. Also not salty I am fine with the change. the damage buff lasts for around 3 seconds on a burrning target and also let me demonstrat the buff for you. let's take a mida for example. In PvP mida does around 57 to the head and guess what 5% of 57 is 3 so you get a wopping 3 extra damage. Really breaking the damage vault. And in PvE if you ever think a 3 second "buff" of 5% damage is worth it you need to rethink your life choice

                      • I feel like it had some unintended consequences. They changed the DoT from 7 to 2. I think this is because Viking funeral makes it stack and have a melting point like effect. This makes solar grenades a lot weaker and firebolts completely useless. If they're going to decrease the DoT they need to buff the grenade damage to compensate for it.

                          How exactly does Viking Funeral stack now? If i understand correctly, the extended burn/dot effect of Ignite no longer exists. In its place is a debuff which yields 5% extra damage to target. Does a single Ignite inflicted upon an enemy stack over time up to 15% or does the Sunsinger have to, for example, spam 3 grenades (that each inflict Ignite) on a single target in order to debuff at 15% ? I cant test this out myself, away from console for a while.

                            • the change doesnmt make any sense. The melee is no longer useful [b]at all[/b] and you can't apply all three burns without sacrificing an exotic slot and then the first burn runs out basically as soon as you apply the third.

                                • It's effectively useless for PvP but you can just use other perks. As for PvE, I think it's a little weak. 5%, up to 15%, isn't very much of a damage increase. To put it in perspective, one punch from a Sunbreaker Titan will increase damage by about 50%. Sunsingers should either be capable of applying more stacks, or each stack should increase damage by 15-25%. To reach the current cap of 15%, a super is required while Sunbreakers only require the melee ability and it is far greater.

                                  • I think the new Viking Funeral is amazing for PvE. It allows Warlocks to really have a support class going for them. PvP wise, the new Viking Funeral provides a pretty good damage buff. However, the best way to make use of it is with Firebolts. Fusion Grenades are a 1 hit kill, you'd be better off running two of them. It can work with Solar Grenades as the burn can stack three times on multiple targets, as long as the grenade is thrown directly on top of a player. A Solar Grenade half way through its duration will not apply a burn to players who step through it. I personally stepping through a Solar Grenade at any time should apply Viking Funeral to that target, as we speak Firebolts are currently the best method of using this setup.

                                    • I agreed viking funeral needed a nerf or to be changed but the standard burn needed a slight buff to compensate for the fact that firebolts really suck without it.

                                    • I think the new viking funeral was a much needed change to the warlock. Now it has an ability to improve damage output much like weapons of light or tether. I haven't tried this out yet though so I don't know if it's going to be useful.
