Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

Millitary (retired)? You might not be too young anymore ( i might be wrong). I think age is the answer you are looking for.

im not a prokiller at this game but what worked best for me was too find out what game mode suits me best and just practising at it by doing this i went from three kills to 19 kills without realising

Everyone suck in crucible even me 😂

Edited by Ismail_Yucel: 4/9/2015 1:07:26 PMMy humble advise is to watch truevanguard's videos at youtube. He is doing decent pvp videos. He gives tactical infos, weapon and armor details, map variations etc. It will help you a lot. Edit: didnt see this was a death topic, sry

You don't suck man, I wouldn't be surprised if the Pvp is full of try hards with the thorn or red death which is majority of every game I play Atleast. Find a guy that suits you more and use that or just avoid Pvp like I do, I don't bother with it until iron banner comes around. Last IB I got to rank 5 it was annoying but ehh worth it.

You don't suck, everyone else is just -blam!-ing great at it.
-
dont worry, the servers are shit on this game, if you play cod and get good with it though, you'll be good at destiny bc of the reaction time needed to turn on a person and 420 blaze it them
-
If you don't have a redbar or lag switch you can not win

guys this thread was made october 2014. ITS DEAD ITS DEAD> ITS DEAD. LISTEN. ITS DEAD.

Look at your name.

Map knowledge is hugely important in this game learn the spawns in relation to where your team is (try control first as the spawns at fairly stable in relation to the a and c control points on all most all maps so good place to start as tracking you team is a lot easier) once you have this down you can start feeling out your play style. Are you looking for long lines of site for snipers/ scouts or do you like to find corners to run and gun with hand cannons/ shot guns (these are to two extremes but you get the idea)
-
Alright then I'll do my best ok so to start don't use blink use something slower to get 2 feel the map a bit and avoid tight corners unless u can switch targets fast and spin on ur heels I guess also try play a bit more passive to steps toward one step back also learn 2 love ur radar it's ur last line 2 getting laid so use it and know wat it does also try get used 2 the fact that somtimes ur gunna get gang banged so u need 2 evaluate who can u kill b4 u die or can u run and survive uumm wat else oh learn the spawns and the spawn limits like how far u can go b4 they swap and I think finally save ur super if u stay on the move but around the centre of the map u can get 2 a flag quickly and well slayer medals 4 days and well I think that's it...anything else?? No? Yes? Idk! So yea that's it ok um good luck I guess idk wat country ur from but thx 4 Savin my ass from wateva from bein in the army :D

Edited by Volharding: 4/9/2015 9:43:13 PMHeadshots, high impact weapons, low recoil weapons, cover when badly injured and don't be afraid to actually run away because you will be chased often, just set up a good ambush position. You hear the guy activating his gold gun around a corner? Run like f***ing hell. Sliding can sometimes be helpful for not getting shot when you take cover. Heavy ammo. By "One-shot" I will assume you mean Shotguns because that is 87% of the Crucible. Just stay away from them, or use them. I personally have no idea how to one-shot people with shotguns from 5 feet away at the moment but I'm working on it. Fusion rifles with high impact are good to use, just charge before you see the enemy. I'll try to update as I think about it more. Bait rocket launcher users and then blink out of the way. They usually won't try to shoot you if your using your jump ability and are in mid-air unless they have tracking or proximity missiles.

The crucible works off impact. So if you have a gun with high impact and firerate you will typically succeed. (Thorn, red death, etc)
-
Gotta get the head shots and the crucible is easy.

Because you a scrub

For the love of god don't just go running in. Stick around the team picking people off. Sniper rifles are a lot more versatile than you might think. Use a short range scope and practice. Blink is best used on unsuspecting individual enemies. You might be getting killed by a dude you just haven't seen yet (or he's at least reducing your health enough for the guy you CAN see to finish you off) Basically practice with every gun on every map. You are going to die a lot but you'll learn the mechanics of it soon enough. Practice is the only remedy. Remember to have fun though above all else.
