And therein lies the true nature of Destiny's failing storytelling: nothing you do in the game has an affect on the game world itself. We all run the same patrols and go to the same tower at level one as we do when we get to level 30. No matter what we do all the enemies will spawn in the same place at the same time, and the characters in the tower sell the same items that nobody wants. We're just doing our job as guardians, and we're not allowed to do anything more than that. Video games are entertainment, meant to give us an illusion that we are breaking from our daily cycle of working and sleeping, but Destiny doesn't even try. It lies straight to our face saying, "you are legend," then we go back to the daily grind. If you're happy playing it, that's fine and all, it's good that you enjoy it, but this is another perspective on why so many don't like it. There's nothing at stake. We're just teeth in the cogwheel.
