Doing a 180-degree turn to check behind me during the Crucible takes about one full second to do, with the controller analog. In that time, I usually die.
I wish there was one button assigned to perform an 'about-face' spin to rectify this. I wish this were a common practice in all controller-based FPS games, but Bungie is a leader here. The only game in which I've found this feature is Left 4 Dead 2, on the PC with an Xbox 360 controller.
Note: I've just tried turning up my look sensitivity to 10 (the maximum), so I'll see if this improves my issue in the Crucible at all.

Even 10 is too slow for me

10 was the upper extreme, and way too sensitive. So I've been using 7 instead. I can now perform a turnaround in about 0.65 seconds. Longer than I'd like, but it seems to be the best compromise. I still liked the default of 3 for aiming straight ahead, since with 7 I overshoot my targets due to its sensitivity. I'd prefer to use 3 and have an 'about-face' button for quick back-checking.

It's been a few weeks using 10 as my sensitivity, and although it was hard, I think I've finally got it under control. I still slip up every once in a while, but if you stick with it, you CAN get used to it. My effectiveness in the Crucible has gone up, and I can react to back-attacks more quickly. That being said, I'd still like to try using an about-face spin in tandem with a lower sensitivity.

Adding this suggestion to my post, please keep it updated as I will be editing and compiling a community contributed list for developers of Bungie to read :)
