The decision [to remove all split-screen modes] was an extremely difficult one for the team, but one that was necessary to deliver the biggest Halo game to date. 343’s focus is to ensure that fans get the best Halo experience yet, and the team felt a split-screen experience would compromise the gameplay design and the visual bar they’ve set.
So, I've been listening to Gaminformer's latest podcast for the past two hours just about, and a segment involving Marty O'donnel and Jaime Griesemer has them talking about their work on the franchise. They end up talking about splitscreen in Halo, and Jaime shares his thoughts about 343i's decision.
You can listen to that segment here.
Otherwise, his quote on the matter is below:
I do understand why the 343 guys [had to cut splitscreen], I mean, they're facing all the exact same problems [we did], and I can absolutely--- and they have a better alternative which is to just play it over Live. So I can absolutely see why they made that call.
60 for 1080p Or Split screen The top is at all times, and nice regardless The bottom is situational, and primarily nostalgic Won't really affect me, seeing as if I get it, my friends have their own consoles and they bring them when we game.

I think this is a bad move on their part. They know how important it is and they said it was a hard decision, but I think it was a stupid decision.
But that's my opinion. I hope I'm not the only one.
This would be a huge problem for me if it was 2004 again and none of my close school friends had an Xbox or Halo so they came to my house to play split-screen, but now everybody I play Halo with has their own console and Xbox Live. It's still really sad and weird to see split-screen gone from Halo but I'm just going to wait for the game to come out before I make any more judgments. Please be good Halo 5, there's a lot of people rooting for you.

Thank god no ass canal pals to double team one guy or f.u.c.k the whole team up.
-
I wish they still include it for local, even at a lower resolution it frame rate. Bungie got that wrong recently and 343 should have realised that.
-
An outsider opinion from within the industry.

OP that gif crazy +1 I saw that previously somewhere else forgot where Yhea before this would have sucked but considering fam grew up and only I play, it doesn't affect me at all It better have a considerable diff to take that off Hopefully this is to somehow tailor to hardcore fans, as we can see taking stuff from books

It's called taking turns lol. And they can always add it in an update. Everybody quit freaking out. :) Granted split screen is awesome and there had to have been a good reason to keep it out for launch. But Halo players will voice their opinions and it will get added in.
-
tbh, this is no surprise. the gaming community is always pushing for 60 fps and 1080p yet they don't understand the complications in making a video game (or coding in a way). If there was splitscreen but no 60 fps then people would complain as well. You can't have everything, somethings have to be sacrificed. Ducain23 says it perfectly.

This isn't game-breaking news to me, but it is a bit saddening. I never had an Xbox before reach came out, and my brother and I got the special reach edition. From that point my brother and I played through every campaign together, starting with reach, going back, playing CE, 2, 3(we went crazy trying to get every piece of campaign gear, scout, EOD, Hayabusa, ect.), ODST, and finally halo 4.

Basically, a major socialization factor that helped builed the Halo franchise has been removed. Well...sure, we have better Internet now. But there's nothing better than telling your friends to suck it in person.
-
I hope this isn't what gaming is coming to. As much as we are entering a wireless era, sometimes it's best to play games with your friends next to you.
-
Not gonna lie... Im kinda pissed
-
This proves even more that developers are starting to care more about how pretty their game looks and how cool they can make their trailers, not gameplay or story. It's saddening to see.

Put two equally sized tv's next to each other vertically. Then buy two separate consoles and the game you want to split screen. Proceed to play makeshift split screen.

Edited by Sinfulbeing: 7/1/2015 6:26:25 PMSo ? I haven't played split screen except on mine craft and on halo mcc but I'll be honest I fucjing hate it. In glad my buddy finally got his damn xbox I don't know how we survived playing 4 player split screen on an 18 inch TV back in the day. I'll stick with my full 60 inch tv
-
Well, it's 2015. It is unfortunate for kids that still have friends come over (aka sleepovers). Honestly, there hasn't been decent split screen since N64.
-
Good job prioritizing the graphics over the gameplay. Really stellar, I don't know why anybody else doesn't do this. /s
-
Comments be like: "HALO IS DED" "SCREW U 343 I HATE U" "WHYYYY CRUEL WORLD" I be like: "Cool, now they can divert more attention to story, gameplay and online multiplayer."
-
Wtf is with everyone bitching about no split screen does the words Lan Party not exist anymore?
-
I hardly played split screen but it was still a nice feature to have
-
Split screen sucks anyway...lol
-
NOOOOO This (to me) is a very bad decision
-
They almost removed split screen in reach, right? I remember Urk saying that splitscreen is cool, but it doesn't help make the game look nice, and it holds back parts of development.

Halo just died
