• Maybe they have a strange religion where hammers are gods so they wouldn't want to hit something with it lol.

 • Instead of saying "its a brute weapon blah blah blah" I think its because they would have to do a whole new set of animations for the elite to pwn with the hammer. They would have to do a whole bunch if new stuff. They could take the animation from multiplayer and code it into the elite stuff but they arent updating the campaign. So dont hope on it. •
Posted by: SavXtreme Bungie probably thought they'll accidentally kill you when you're nearby (rockets and fuel rod is fine because they never shoot it close range - using a Gravity Hammer requires them to use it close range with the enemy - where you usually are). Also, for the serious campaign mode it may 'kill the mood', so to speak, if you see Elites randomly hammering enemies. Why? Well just look at the animation, in third person, for an Elite hammering - it's comical at the least. It's fine for multiplayer, where things aren't exactly serious and it's not based on a storyline, and especially as the Halo 3 online experience is supposed to be humorous and fun. But for campaign, Bungie may prefer a more serious and less comical gameplay style and mood when playing.
Actually, I would love to watch that, just stand back and laugh my head off while an Elite hammers the snot out of the brutes.

They still attack with Brute Shots, Spikers and that sort.

 • Because the Brutes use it, and the Brutes replaced the Elites in the covenant, and they're pissed about it, so they won't use a Brute weapon (shut up about the spiker and the other brute weapons, they won't use a Brute weapon and that's final).
