Why trading won't work(Detailed)

Taken from my comment on a post, Do you want the truth? The ugly truth that no one wants to hear? Well here it is. Those who want trading are literally too lazy to grind the items. That's for SOME people. The reason why it's illogical to set a trade system is because of the lack of items in destiny. It barely reaches 2000, trade systems are enacted on games with millions of items, because of the broader selection. Do you know how long this game is supposed to last? We have at least 2-3 more months until HoW, that's plenty of time to get every single item in the game with dedication. Want to know why BUNGIE won't give you trading? Because they wouldn't be able to stretch out their game. The game was meant to be gradually completed, many players impatiently seek everything within 1 week and don't know what a reset is. Do you like a game dictated by your dedication to get an item, or the amount of real world money you have to buy it? Because if trading were enacted, you'd see people sell items for profit, and then ANYONE could get everything instantly. You REALLY don't want this. It won't happen, it can't happen. Don't get too butthurt about logic, it's there for a reason. EDIT: In the 2-3 months, exotics are not included in reasoning, due to the xur system. Your opinion matters, I respect opposition and appreciate support, so please, feel free to comment on the issue.

  • You're basing the thought that the trading system would be based off an in game currency or micro transactions. What's being asked is that a simple 1 for 1 trading system be enacted. If players want to add some sort of level of their own to that, so be it. That's the job of the player, not the devs.

  • Thus game wasn't designed to have trading in mind. To enable trading. They need to change a lot of things. First they need to get rid of the glimmer cap. The reason trading in other games works is because the weapon everyone wants is insanely expensive. They need to have a market place to list items. So the game can have a in game economy. They need to increase the costs of all xur items. So exotics are harder to come by. This way people can either grind glimmers through hard work. Or run raids. And those that run raids can be rewarded by selling things they don't need.

Keep in mind only 16% of destiny's players have completed a raid. That merely points out a lack of dedication for those that are at the level to start raiding.

    • You forgot about the fact that getting new weapons is half the game. With trading people don't need to nightfall/raid.

      • Talk to me when you've been playing the game for more than a month. Then tell me we are to lazy to grind out exotics. Don't presume to tell vets we've been "lazy" since launch. I'm kinda getting tired of newbies coming in and telling us we don't know what would and wouldn't work in destiny.

      • The bigger problem, I'm sure has been mentioned is cheating/duping. Want to use a game close to Destiny as an example? Borderlands, it's crazy the amount of user made and duped items.

        • What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

          • I'm not stating my opinion as to why it should or shouldn't be added, I'm merely posting to why it would not work.

2000? Millions? 2-3 months? Where, exactly, did you get these numbers? Frankly, I've played plenty of games where people sold stuff for real world profit, where anybody could get anything instantly, and nobody with their priorities even slightly straight would do it. Only the idiots and the desperately rich do it, a trading system wouldn't cripple the game nearly as much as you think it would. Hell, considering most games economies revolve around a few key items at the higher levels, Destiny wouldn't be that much out of place with the number of exotics/legendaries worth having that it has. That being said, I agree with you to a point. We shouldn't have a full on trading system, anybody trading with anybody, but I feel we should have a fireteam trading system. Something where after a fireteam clears an activity the participants able to trade any rewards they got amongst themselves, there's nothing more infuriating then getting duplicates of what your friend wants while they get duplicates of what you want.
Also, unless you're supremely lucky it takes way more then 2-3 months of dedicated playing to get all the exotics. There are some people who have been playing since release who are still far from having everything. You can go months without getting an exotic or something you don't already have, especially with Xur being the bastard he is.
• 2-3 months to get every item....REALLY! Your post was good until that came out; Its RNG. I could grind for 5 years and not receive every item or even the ones I want. When are you people going to understand?

                    • I read on someone else's post that they could implement some kind of blind trading through a NPC third party acting like a handler. I appreciate that this wouldn't address your first points as bungie clearly wants to stretch this game out as much as possible but it would at least stop any PayPal transactions. Perhaps they could implement a system where it was like for like on the rarity and weapon type, or even add a bounty for all trades, this handler might need an incentive to facilitate your trades. That would slow down people gaining weapons but not leave it in the hands of RNG.
