Ok this topic has been done numerous times, but I just wanted to share this gem.
"Have you heard of the black garden?"
"We've heard the legends"
NO WE HAVEN'T, NO WE HAVEN'T!!!
We literally heard a passing mention of it, but the player is no position to know any legends, hell even the character you play as is in no position to know any legends!
Gasp* sorry I had to get that off my chest.
But it's the kind of line that shows how little cohesive narrative the game has. It can't even establish whose perspective the player is supposed to be in. Are we the silent protagonist, like Gordon freeman and link, or are we an established character with a personal history and motivation like booker from bioshock infinite?
In short, one of the writer's biggest jobs is to anticipate what the spectator knows or doesn't know, and what perspective the spectator is supposed to take.
Sorry about the rant
Edit: I'm not gonna lie, I do like the line "couldn't we just stay with the murderous robots instead?" It makes me chuckle every time.
Well thank you writers, I'll have bad quotes I'll always love to hate and quote on my everyday life.
Edit2: me thinks the line "I don't even have time to explain..." Is responsible for most guardian fatalities thus far. I envy it's K/D
