So, I was thinking about cod and I had an idea. We're all used to the standard FPS cod we have today, but a new, ACTUAL innovation, dawns on me: an open world cod. Hear me out on his:
The campaign could be you going through and assaulting bases, fighting enemies in the usual fashion, and maybe even implement taking bases to create safe zones or something.
Multiplayer would be is certain places around the map, and radio beacons would be outside them. This is how matchmaking would work. You activate a flare or a radio or something, and it matches you with people who want to do the same thing.
I think the WW2 setting would fit this well, as you could come across small skirmishes or huge battles randomly.
You could have crates, though I get mixed responses with this. Camos and reticles could be unlocked like usual, either ONLY through multiplayer of by performing challenging feats (headshots, etc.) on these large skirmishes.
Please just feedback. If you hate the idea, please tell, but please be respectful. This is just an idea I had, and I want you guys to help me either further enhance it or rate it 1-10
Edit: how do you guys feel about vehicles

So you've come up with an entirely original idea for a tactical, realistic shooter game, and you want it to be the next COD? What?
-
No WW2. Community doesn't make sense. They say it's annoying when a game stays in the same setting, it changes to match forward flow of time. Now everyone wants ww2 again.. but I really don't. Here's an idea! Make up an entirely new conflict! Stop feeding off of history for another garbage storyline with -godwinslaw!- Zombies thrown in.. new means new.
-
I just want a stand alone zombies game. Expand the zombie plot for a full length story complete with weird science and weapons! Horror themed multiplayer perks and killstreaks! Also zombies too I guess.
-
Space CoD 2k16
-
So open world cod. How about no
-
I have an idea. Large scale ww2 40 vs 40 vehicles included and sea battles. I call it battlefield 5
-
Not sure if they could make an open world in one year.
-
HEY I GOT IT!!! CHECK THIS OUT!!! CALL OF DUTY.... BUT IN SPACE!!
-
I doubt cod would do this, but I think it would make a great concept for another game.
-
The idea of an open CoD interests me about equal to an open Half-Life 3, which isn't saying much. However if the single player environments were more spaced out, giving you the chance to approach objectives differently or at your own pace like in any of the Hitman games I'd have no problem with that. There was a mission in Call of Duty 2 for example where you clear out a bunch of farm buildings, but you can pick which buildings to clear first. If anyone needs a reference point, this is the same mission where it begins with your character mans a heavy machine gun at the beginning, another solider forgets his extra ammo causing a conversation about him leaving it at the side of the road. Then it ends with you climbing a tower, manning mortars I believe. CoD's campaigns lately narrow the route from point A to point B, staying truer to more linear strategies than giving you different explorable options.

You just described a modern destiny.

Edited by Enter Name Here: 4/3/2016 11:58:11 PMNo, not for COD
-
For a game, hell yea! For cod, I doubt it
-
COD sells for its multiplayer, so most would not care for campaign. That and they would hate having to play some solo/travel around just to play multiplayer.
-
A game completely about Group 935, nothing but zombies.

Edited by Tarsus: 4/3/2016 9:59:42 PMThis is fantastic idea for a game, but I could never see CoD going this route. People have come to expect a certain game from CoD and, despite all of the complaints you see about it being a reskinned game every year, people would flip shit if it was anything too different. If CoD wasn't an established franchise, it might work. However, Activision has created a pretty much guaranteed money maker even though they release the same pile of shit with a new coat of paint. But I would definitely play your game if someone made it. You could go all the way from D-Day to the fall of -godwinslaw!- Germany. Maybe have story based DLC where you can see different allied perspectives as they all advanced on Berlin. I would throw money at my screen to play that shit.
-
So basically it's open world single player and normal multiplayer? If the single player was co op then I would 100% buy this game. I don't think u can really call it innovative because it's really just throwing multiple games together but I like the idea.
-
They ought to do this next year after the Deep Space game I have been wanting a game about the entirety of WW2 from start to finish (IE not just 'Muricans) for a while now. YOU HAVE THE MONEY ACTIVISION COME ON
-
I believe this game already exists. It's called Farcry.
-
I think this is a good idea, but it's not cod
-
Would it just be free for all or you pick a team before you start or what?
-
Ehh. Nah. CoD is meant to be that linear shooter game. But, maybe this idea could be neat for it's own IP
-
This is really cool. Just sounds alot like the Division, but if it is a WW2 setting, it will be plenty different.
-
Like Planetside 2?
-
Sounds like Planetside 2.

*sees safe zones* *thinks of Dying Light*
