Edit: There is a post on this post going on over on Reddit. For all the negative light this original post paints Reddit in (and to the Reddit participants here, you're not really taking any moral high ground over there are you...), it has led to some pockets of actual discussion on the fundamental differences in the 2 entities and why each is the way it is. There's no arguing that we have a rougher edge over here, but we also have a lot of really great ideas posted here on topics that aren't allowed to see the light of day over there. I also think that we tend to speak our minds more and they tend to hide more behind their downvote system. Anyway it's funny how this opposite ends of town feud blew up, but it's good it's led to debate. ---------original post--------- We've all heard it. How terrible we are as a community here on bnet. And we've heard time and again from your developers how they look to Reddit for community feedback as thoughts and ideas die on your own forums. Now things post-Cozmo are better and he's been by far the best thing to happen to bnet in the last year, but there's still this overarching perception that we're the red headed stepchildren of the Destiny community. Well I decided to try out Reddit to see exactly what that community is like and it became crystal clear why most of your developers prefer to hang out there. It's censored to the Hive filled moon and back. Rather than just go thru my experience, I'm going to post my last Reddit post which I fully expect will be removed by tomorrow. Been a long time member of the bnet community and decided to see what Reddit is like because there's finally a phone app for it. What is a big deal is that apparently there's a lock on discussion of certain topics. I understand you probably don't want your forums to be the boundless nerf posts that populate bnet, but it seemed from what I saw that posts don't gain the same traction here and that likes are more important than # of comments (and so curate themselves to a large extent). That being said, I also realized being new that until I know people here, I probably won't get too many comments on posts just because people gravitate to things and people they're familiar with. So over the last few days I made a few posts. One on how underrated Fusion Rifles were pre-update. One asking opinions of the update and one on a simple solution to implementing matchmaking across all Destiny activities. Then I login tonight after work to a message that posting an idea for how to implement matchmaking violates the forum rules because it's on a Bungie Please list (all links to said list result in page errors). My guess is this is Reddit's version of the bnet community wish list. If that's the case, I'm not posting asking for matchmaking or asking if there should be. I'm offering a thought out solution to implementing it. So at this point, I'm at a loss as to what the functionality of the Destiny Reddit is supposed to be. Are we just allowed to discuss what we did today in Destiny? I love the game and it's amazingly fun... for about 2 weeks out of every month. Destiny does a lot right, but there are also things it needs to be better at and now is when those things should be being discussed. They're heavy into development of Destiny 2 right now and so if there are things that we as a community (and I mean a community of Destiny fans regardless of what sites or forums we frequent) want to see changed or implemented in Destiny 2, now is the time to be letting Bungie know and trying to engage them on topics. So I tried to discuss a topic that I and many others care a lot about with this community of Destiny fans and offer up a simple solution to a sometimes devisive topic and it was removed. The part I truly don't understand is that there were 8 total comments and none for probably 15 hours. The post wasn't blazing up the forum, it was lost amongst hundreds of others submitted at that time, so why make a point to remove a dead and buried post that wasn't going anywhere else? That's the part I can't reconcile and honestly it makes me wonder if the topic is off limits because matchmaking would inevitably hurt r/fireteams. So that was a negative experience, but in spite of it I started browsing other posts. Someone posted asking if DoP was actually nerfed to which I replied it wasn't. Then I saw a Fusion Rifle video post with no likes or comments (I love Fusion Rifles) and they were using The Vacancy which is one of my favorites. So I watched the video as they used it and Shadestep to annihilate a couple people and commented how awesome it was to see someone else who loves fusions and how nice the video was. ... Only to get an error telling me I'm "doing that too often" (commenting) and try again in 7 minutes. So now I'm really confused. I posted an answer in a thread asking a question, watched a video in another and tried to say nice job and I'm being too social? I appreciate that people here are Destiny fans and as someone who hears all the talk on bnet about how terrible we are as a community over there, I had hoped to come over here and find that fans are fans and we all just want to talk Destiny and help make it great. I don't think I've found that and honestly I feel like an outsider that's walked into the wrong neighborhood and the locals are circling the wagons and locking doors as the sheriff shows me the road out of town. I didn't expect to come over here and instantly be ingrained in this community, but I didn't expect it to be so Pleasentville either.
