I'm thinking of buying the Astro a40 with the mix amp for my Xbox one. I'm using a controller with a 3.5 mm headset jack if that matters. Is it worth it?

No Bought a pair Had them 3 months Stopped working Called their customer service Essentially got told that sucks and oh well

2 RepliesI have a pair and I love them. I have the m80 mix amp which plugs directly into the controller and I've never had a problem with either the mix amp or heat set.

5 RepliesEdited by Mr Pillow: 5/10/2017 8:49:20 PMI have Astro A50s for my PS4. Best gaming headset I've owned. They are wireless also. Prior headsets were turtle beaches, tritons, and PS4 gold headset. Comfort is big for me because I'll usually be using for 3+ hours. I've used them multiple times for 6+ hour game sessions with no discomfort. They are very comfortable. Sound quality in my opinion is very good. So yes I would recommend them.

1 ReplyAll around best headset I've ever owned. Blows away the a50 as well

15 RepliesI have A40's & A50's. The 40's are alright. I'd look for a sale. A50's are a blast.

They're good, but they're too expensive, making them not really worth it. I have a pair and while I don't regret the purchase I wish they were cheaper. I don't have the mix amp though. Pros: Comfortable Very customizable Good sound overall Cons: Expensive Sound is slightly punchy with explosions and similar (without mix amp) A lot of adjustable parts, making them easy to break

Don't buy it. Got the special halo edition. Didn't even last a year. Luckily was still under warranty

No. You'll get more value for your money with a pair of real headphones and a clip on or attachable boom mic like a Zalman Mic1 or ModMic.

If you're worried about mic quality definitely get something else. The audio quality thru the headset is awesome but the mic sounds like a phone call from the 80s.

3 RepliesGenerally speaking, I don't think "gaming" headsets are worth the money. In my experience, the sound quality isn't great and overemphasizes bass and loudness over detail and clarity. I think there are better options for the same or less than what you'd pay for Astros. The HyperX Cloud series is well regarded and decently priced. There are offerings from Sennheiser (I personally own the Game One headset which I love), and Audio Technica, companies that are all about audio and sound engineering. You can even purchase the Astro Mixamp separately and use another headset with it. So you can get the best of both worlds; the capabilities of the mixamp with better sound quality from better headsets.

Definitely.

I'm not that impressed with my A40's tbh. They don't suck, but not worth the price imo. I would suggest getting the mixamp and find a better headset.

No. They break quick.

I really like them. They were my first set of stereo headset so I can't say if they are better than anything else. They are extremely comfortable to wear and imo the sound quality is pretty good. But that's coming from someone who hasn't used a different headset. I also got the mod kit for the extra sound proofing and I honestly can't hear someone talking to me 5 feet away. Just a heads up though, if you do get them I would get the mod kit specifically for the mic replacement. The standard version is extremely short and it seems like it doesn't reach close enough to your mouth to pick up your voice every time.

4 RepliesIn terms of comfort -- definitely. As for sound -- meh...
