Three of Coins Functionality
Hey all,
Throughout the weekend, we’ve been monitoring player feedback concerning the recently added Three of Coins consumable offered by Xûr. We’d like to give clarification on the functionality of this item:
[quote][b]When players use a Three of Coins consumable, this provides a 50% increase to the base chance of being rewarded an Exotic Engram upon activity completion. Using this consumable does not guarantee an Exotic reward upon completing a set number of activities – but rather increased chances upon each activity completion.[/b][/quote]
[b]Note:[/b] We have found that Heroic Strikes do not currently grant higher chances for Exotics when using Three of Coins consumables, compared to Vanguard Strikes. We’re looking to address this with a future Hotfix, expected in early 2018.
We will continue to monitor and forward feedback concerning this feature throughout the holiday season. Keep it coming!

Ok, so 50% is the increased chance of receiving an Exotic engram. I ran a total of 7 hours, consisted of 3 dozen HEROIC public events and two dozen HEROIC strikes. I received one Exotic Engram in the final hour of that play time. 50% you say? 50% of what base percentage? I can tell you that base is dismally small. First off Bungie recently said in patch notes that the drop rates on Exotic engram in public events was lessened. So the "effect" of the 3oC on them for all we know is nominal depending on the percentage that engrams were nerfed on public events in the first place. Second in Heroic strikes what was the percentage of Exotic engram drop rates when they came out with the DLC drop? Again 3oC "effects" could be nominal. 50% of what? For all I know the one Exotic engram was a random drop that generally would have dropped without the "effect" of 3oC. The only thing I didn't test was whether or not using the Vanguard boons for Fireteam Medallions had an adverse effects on 3oC. Judging by Bungie's hidden XP modifications it wouldn't surprise me to find that one of these items cancels out the effect on the 3oC and it not be communicated to us. Or course I'm looking at other avenues for acquiring Exotics I don't have, but the 3oC's "effect" is not worth the shards. Give us numbers, something that shows us what is worthwhile to use.
