A Guardian, Fallen: Part One

“No... no, no, no, no!” Rezyl kicked the ashes around him. “Goddammit!” He sighed, sitting in a charred couch in what was once the lobby. He glanced at the elevator, thinking of the times he would tell people not to go into the basement and they still went anyway. “It’s all gone. Burnt to the ground.” The Guardian’s Hotel, once seen (by Rezyl) as a beacon of light anyone in Offtopic could rest at, had been razed to the ground. Who would do this? Why? “Dammit,” he repeated, and stood. He had nowhere to stay for the night. Everywhere in the area had been scorched. No one was around for miles. For the first time in a while, Rezyl was... scared. He looked back at the elevator, and got to thinking. He had prepped the basement with state of the art technology that would protect everything in there at all costs. If anything in there survived, like the monsters born of the Void... he could track down whoever did this. Excited, he ran towards the elevator. Upon pressing both the up and down buttons, he discovered that it didn’t work. The doors would open. Of course they wouldn’t. “Shit.” He sat against the doors, defeated. Whoever did this would just burn down more of Offtopic. Everyone who had been to the Guardian’s Hotel knew of how crazy shit could get. This took the cake by far. He started thinking of the Void, and how the monsters underneath came to be, and then he had an epiphany. He could just bust open the doors. Rezyl hadn’t used his Void powers in years, mostly because he didn’t think about his home very often, except for when he thought about the monsters. He wasn’t sure he even remembered how to use his powers. He stood, facing the twin doors of the elevator. He focused on the door and manifested his powers into one shattering blow. Then he punched the door. The door just barely managed to crack open enough for Rezyl to pry the doors open. “Damn, I’m weak as hell,” he thought aloud. The elevator car was at the bottom of the floors: Floor B for Basement. Rezyl sucked in his breath, and jumped down to the car, determined to murder the person who destroyed his home.
