Normally I'm pretty laid back about the fact that this is an experience that's subject to very complex issues regarding development and deployment, but this is pretty absurd. On one hand: Great that you seem to be able to roll everything back and that players haven't actually lost real money or substantial progress. On the other hand outside the video game industry, a company's customers would have absolutely taken them to task over a screw up like this. Yeah, it was just one day and yeah this game runs on some very complex software, but it's more a matter of principle than the reality. I side with the players who are saying "fixing" what happened by erasing the mistake isn't good enough. That's the bare minimum that is expected since all of us who play, especially this far in, have spent a lot of money with you guys. An issue like this isn't just an "oops, we made a mistake..."

  • YES great they can roll everything back for everyone ... SO why have friends of mine who have lost characters etc due to issues been told there is nothing that can be done... I know there are over 8 million people world wide playing D2 and their messages etc. must be through the roof BUT part of having a good/great game is customer support and looking at issue coming in via emails etc. SO who do Bungie listen to? It appears it is not the average player and maybe just the streamers/professional ones as I am always reading on sites about issue which are never resolved. I have just returned to D2 after 12 months off and the game has more issue then before and things Bungie said they would do ... like not nerfing weapons etc. have gone by the wayside and still occurring ... I am also sick of everything revolving around clans and raids and the single players have all left due to their not being able to get many things which are only available doing these activities... Joined clans which say they will run through raids with you and help only to have them leave as it is taking too long ... Make the game good for single non-clan players as well. I see since my return Nightfalls no longer have to have 3 players prior to starting... one good move out on many failures is not good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn1ZVxKS6MM&fbclid=IwAR1GvW6DJF4R37ZuPkUuYgLCULCMdQRkJRK_rSgOxnDauIlWanlAljs-Kno

  • It's quite literally the butterfly effect. Using coded programming on a mass scale is more complex than an inhouse test. We all want continuous activities on a daily basis, this is the cost of that. I do find it funny how many people say I want, yet you never see the words Your Job afterwards.

  • It's made me wonder what the reality you mention is actually like. I'm reminded of the posts or updates in which they were discussing the shift in their approach to DLC due to it being hard to keep up or manage? I don't recall exactly what it had all said. I agree with that, there are some absolutely rapid development and deployment cycles. I don't know much about programming, but from the tiny amount I do, a glitch like this seems like there was something pretty fundamental overlooked or that didn't take correctly rather than a small oversight. Maybe not so much in the result, but in what they're showing to be the only fix. Regardless I still think Destiny is a groundbreaking game that seems to get more impressive in as many or more ways as there are annoyances.

I've worked with coding as a hobby, while fun it was maddening finding the root of a screwup. Everytime stuff like this happens it reminds me of my FO4 experience. I could never progress the last story missions in Nuka-world for months. I had mods enabled so I fiddled with them, nada. Turns out the conversation mod I left on was the problem. If I hadn't screwed up my mods I probably never would have discovered it. (anyone else remember Game Genie or Gameshark?)

  • LOL the best codes and cheats though were in Shadows of the Empire on 64. I've never looked to see for sure, but I've always assumed they were developer loops and breadcrumbs that were used as tests and then never removed prior to shipping. Haha now I'm all nostalgic. Super Jumps back in Halo 2, sword canceling, and holes in a level you could punch through with a specter, while not codes were also petty amazing exploits.

  • If they were any kind of sensible, they can take negative situations such as this and spin it positively from a PR perspective. The should of, however they didn't, do this when the cheating problem was emerging. While a rather different scenario, compensation towards the players and acknowledge their screw up over a serious technical issue like this, it takes the negative "wow, they -blam!-ed up really badly" and turns it into "yea, the -blam!-ed up badly here... but they did the right thing. Good on them." As of right now, I doubt they will do anything like that. They'll issue a bare minimum rollback and act as though this never happened. If they do anything more than the rollback, I'll eat my own words here, but I severely doubt they will.

  • I hope that's not all that comes of it, but yeah I can't think of a time I've personally been around and seen something that was such a fundamental game breaker... In the past I've always thought the stuff they've done as an olive branch was fun.

  • This is actually good feedback for them rather than all the noisy trashy people out there calling out death threats and empty promises about not giving them money again then followed up by still giving money. Remember people the best way to get a point across is with your wallet and/or actual constructive feedback, else just be patient and let the devs work this out.

  • Actually what about the people who got a God roll to drop or an exotic they have been wanting? Yes losing quest progression is not that bad but some people might have lost some extremely rare rolls.

  • It is a great point. But its not bank of america that ensures your money up to $100,000 its a video game that for the first half made you crazy you grinded crota 50 times to never get a gjallarhorn (we hate this bungie), then to change to a every weapon has a guaranteed path to earn with no randomness (we hate this bungie), to now a mix of both worlds... and one weapon god roll lost.... oh and accidentally deleting that gjallarhorn with no kiosk to repurchase I feel your pain... i know your pain... I sympathize.... but if it was worth it go grind more... wallowing in sorrow gets no one anywhere.. but i understand it

  • Ok but the issue with those examples is they don't address the fact that players basically got punished for BUNGIE messing up not the player themselves. So basically imagine doing raids for months without 1k or anarchy dropping then you finally get it and you have to farm it again cuz Bungie messed up and rolled out a patch that obviously wasn't tested. Hell they didn't even actually fix the wormgod/winters guiel bug and actually made it an even stronger bug.

  • .. never had a flight delayed, and never waited 6 hours at a baggage carousel in a third world country, wondering which of his things will the dictator let you keep, and which he keeps for himself, all while never being told what is happening. Some people must never leave their couches to explore the world and actual struggles of others.

  • 6 hours at a baggage carousel... Negatory: Always stick with a carry on ;) LOL explore the actual struggles of others? What the *** kind of high horse are you on that someone else's suffering is something to be explored?

  • LOL! If comparing Bungie and the experience of online gaming they offer is adequately done by using the utterly crap industry of air travel, then that right there says a lot...

  • Except that this is literally just an oops moment your going to get anything you lost back and nobody is going to lose any actual money. If they were not able to restore things back to how they were before the update I would understand why people would be mad but that isn’t what happened, so why are people freaking out

  • This isn't really an "oops" moment. An oops moment is letting a minor, although annoying bug to get through in development that you can squash latter, like a majority of the Telesto glitches or Wish Ender getting accidentally buffed. The situation at hand is a "Holy -blam!-, all hands on deck" moment. They deleted people's materials in a loot shooter game. This -blam!- up was bad enough to force the entire game to shut down for approximately 10 hours now, if I'm counting correctly. These materials also include currency people potentially bought for real world money, alongside things that amount to hours upon hours of grinding for. Yes, it's going to get rolled back. However, if it weren't, this game would sink right here and right now. The rollback is not a courtesy in this case; it's a requirement to ensure this game survives another day. And also while not required, good PR standard operating procedure would be to give compensation, to easy the blow of the negativity, and spin it in a positive manner.

  • Is it? Do you know enough about software development and patches to be able to say this was just an oops? Any company I can think of in which a person or team of people goofed up like that and they'd be out the door immediately. I'm not freaking out, but I don't think an error like this is no big deal. I've played since day 1 of D1 and seen errors and glitches that were no big deal This isn't one of them.
