Newb here. Is griefing in PVE pretty common?

Had a player think it was fun to grab the 2nd orb and completely hijack a nighfall run the other night. I just picked the game up in April so am pretty new to it. Is this kind of thing common in matchmaking? Here's a video capture I grabbed: [REDACTED] This was after already waiting several minutes for him to set the orb. Is there a way for 2 fireteam members to kick a third if they are pulling something like this in matchmaking?

Hey there, Since this is your first post on the forums, I wanted to inform you of our Code of Conduct. Name and Shame, which means publicly accusing another User of Misconduct, is forbidden by this Code (even if they deserve it as much as the person you showed in the video). Name and Shame can and will lead to Harassment of accused Users, which is what we would like to prevent in all cases. Therefore, I have removed the link to your video from this post and I will lock this topic after this reply. You can message me privately if you want to discuss this topic any further. In Griefing cases such as this one you should always report the User via the in-game tools, and then give them no further attention. Trolls like these live from the attention you give them. It's not common but it happens and there is no way for fireteam members to kick another if they are not part of your pre-made team, so the best course of action is to simply leave and do another Strike.

  • It happens, not common... pretty rare really. But it can happen when things like that are require to advance the strike. Back in D1 during what everyone called "The Fish Strike" where you could farm an Imago Loop and keys for the the chest (ah memories) people were trying to 3 man and get into the strike from rotation in the playlist so they could farm the boss for Keys. I started the strike alone, got half way through before two randos on a fireteam joined in. They helped finish the other half up to the boss- and in order to start the boss you had to dunk an orb into a spot... and they refused to dunk it. They just held onto it like the guy in your video. They messaged me saying they wanted me to leave because their third just got home from work and that they wanted to farm the boss. I told them no, I'm not leaving- I did a majority of the work and they came in half way through- you weren't kicking me from my strike. Thing was... it was my day off, and I had nothing else to do that day, no bills or shopping needed, no adulting requirements that day- so I turned on my computer and watched some movies and made lunch. For 2 hours. Just ran in a circle shooting my guns... jumping around. They told me "Reported, you're griefing- we asked you to leave so we could farm." "Dude just leave lol" "Come on you're being an asshole here, we just want to farm the strike." "Just -blam!-ing leave man we have a third who wants to join us!" "You're really going to be that freaking petty?" Oh I have all the screen shots still... Finally they gave up- asked if I knew how to do the cheese to farm the boss. I lied and said yes, dunked the orb... we killed the boss, got my loot and left. Was I petty? Sure. But I'm stubborn and I had all the time in the world that day- at that point it was a game of how long do they wait until they give up. Long story short, some people will hijack your game. You can just shake your head, report them and move on to another strike... or just turn a movie on and wait till they get bored depending on how much free time you have. Probably better to report and find a new strike.

Played since Forsaken and rarely seen that maybe couple of times, but easiest thing to do in a situation like this is leave, start a new one and save some time.
Also people on this forum are lying you as a titan have power to kick fireteam members... to a wall and kill them.
• Had a dude follow me through the disgraced strike on his sparrow boosting me into walls... until I blew his sparrow up. Got hate mail for that one even though he was griefing me... Had a tier 3 reckoning run back in the day where a couple of guys joined in part way through the first phase of getting kills and didn’t do anything. We failed and my clan mate started getting hateful/disgusting messages telling us to quit out so they could get some other people in... except it was my instance so I just sat and had a staring contest with the dude for twenty minutes. Guy finally had enough and quit I think... or maybe they started playing and we finished. I forget. I would say you’ve got about a 1/4 chance of having a really good experience with an lfg group and a 1/4 of it being absolutely terrible. Another 1/4 chance of it being doable but annoying.

    • It's been happening more and more lately. People trolling in PvE by not reviving people, running through the strikes, holding objectives without completing them, and other ways to mess with people. Destiny didn't used to be this way. I remember in D1 having some high level guardian helping me run around and complete patrols, etc. It was neat. But, now they just want to complete nightfalls in 2 minutes and don't care what they have to do to do it as quickly as possible.

      • A kick feature would be the worst thing in the world to happen to destiny(random matchmaking.). It would be abused so much.

      • Not common. What you can do is leave with the other player and let the douche do it by himself! 😁

      • All you can do is report them. Though I don't think that does much.

      • It's rare but it happens. Had some guy join a Deep Stone Crypt, at Crypt Security he was killing people with his sparrow, second encounter he was hitting the wrong Atraks on purpose, and third encounter he was killing the suppressor with Worldline Zero. We finally kicked him at that point.

      • You did all about you could do by reporting them. I usually go with two options when I run into people like that. One, ignore them. They feed off the attention. Just find a comfy place and wait it out. Message your other person in the activity and have a great conversation while the idiot gets fed up with not having your frustration. Two, if you don't want to wait it out ... leave. Sometimes that is the quickest option.

[REDACTED] Its not too common but it does happen. Some players like to troll
Ninja Edit: Even though you didn't accuse the User directly, I have removed the video link out of consistency.
• I wouldn't say it's common bur it does happen. When it does you decide if it's their first time doing activity and they're clueless what to do oooooor if they're just trolling. remember "don't feed the Trolls" 😉

You can report them. It's better that nothing. No guarantees of anything coming from it though.

      • Nah it’s rare to be honest as people want to hit 100k score in nightfall. I normally leave if there’s a tool trying to screw the nightfall over.

      • Very rare. Unfortunately there is no vote to kick function. If that happens again, you’re better off leaving, imo.

      • It’s been a loooong time since someone intentionally ruined an activity like that for me. When it does happen, I just leave and load a new one. Luckily it’s very rare, and usually something dumb like people intentionally going off and farming bounties or something.

      • Two things: 1. Unfortunately you will be the one that gets a warning for name and shame by posting the vid. 2. By posting a vid of something that's irritating like that, you are helping give an idea for immature little punks around here to be even more annoying. Unfortunately there really isn't much you can do other than simply sit and wait him out without paying any attention to what he's doing. With being completely ignored by both other people for a few minutes (even if he pushes you to your death (don't revive yourself when they do that)) they generally lose interest and either leave or go ahead and deposit the orb. If you don't feel like waiting the person out then bail on the run and hop into another one. Might be a bit of a pain in the butt but it honestly doesn't take all that long getting to that point in the run. Would be cool if the orb wasn't deposited in a certain amount of time then another Champion would show up without the first one going away. I had a guy snatch the orb at the boss in Corrupted a few days ago and take off running around like an idiot. Luckily there were enough enemies around that he didn't last very long. Seeing the obvious result of his shenanigans looming I simply went over to where the orbs spawns and waited. He went over the edge and died. A few seconds later I grabbed the newly spawned orb, chunked it at the boss and continued the run.

      • It’s as common as the “common” drop you get. Or just like Karens: you can live a life without meeting any, or find one around every corner.

        • Very rare but a good example of a reason to use LFG. Make your own teams, kick them if they’re trolling because you’re the host and have that power. Cant kick people in matchmade activities.

        • That’s never happened to me. Usual worst case is they go inactive. But never had someone just intentionally mess up the activity. Sorry that happened.
