I don’t know how my D1 players there are still left in the game but the heavy machine guns of D2 are absolutely horrible. You can still get outgunned by something like an SMG while holding a heavy. It quicker to kill someone with a sidearm at this point. No point even using them!
-
Only time I use MG’s is for a gunsmith bounty, and I’ve figured out the fastest way using the least ammo. Equip Thunderlord, load into Shuro Chi CP, wait for the door to open, pull the trigger once, claim bounty. It’s fun to watch and you can switch back to literally any other more useful heavy weapon as soon as possible.
-
Only one I use is the seraph saw, for warmind builds.
-
Oh you don't even need to be a D1 player to know how bad they are. Bungie nerfed LMG damage against bosses 2 years ago, right before they added a pinnacle LMG to the game....and LMG have never been the same since. Other than Xenophage they do **horrible** boss damage, and the legendaries really aren't usuable. Bungie tried to get us to use them as a "crowd control" weapons, but that failed because that is NOT the role that heavy weapons play in the game. The game's crowd-control weapons are PRIMARY weapons. But Bungie knows that they are BADLY underperforming, and have already stated that they'll be seeing a buff. Probably next season.

In pvp 450s are decent. My avalanche feels really good but gets next to no ammo. The closest we got to d1 power was hammerhead and forsaken when HMGs could pull 50 rounds? 360s are absolute dog crap. Terrible recoil and a piss poor ttk. 900s have to much recoil and by the time you control it you already ran out of ammo.
-
Sidearms kill in 0.6. Machine gun in 0.5 So you only get outgunned if you miss. And MG's are getting a buff in either 2 weeks or 5 weeks.
-
Seraph Saw is great for warmind low tier PvE and Heir Apparent is pretty nasty for both PvE and PvP. But yeah.. they kind of suck. Xeno is of course still top tier. Thunderlord is just plain bad for exotic.
-
Heir Apparent.
-
Used to be busted AF, but Thunderlord and Hammerhead were shredding so hard that all LMGs got slapped hard. Every LMG has suffered since then, with the sole exception of Xenophage which barely qualifies
-
Depends on what archetype you're using. High impacts suck in pvp, great in pve activities, such as master or GM nightfalls, where the extra damage to shields or sustained damage to champions can be useful. Adaptives are great in pvp and gambit, so long as you've got a roll with good range, but average in pve. Rapid fires... exist, I guess. Delirium used to be really good, but that was more because of killing tally than its archetype. Heir apparent is strait up stupid in pvp, but it is very different from every other rapid fire mg.
-
It sucks because in PvE they kinda suck. In PvP when you pick up ammo you get like 15 shots. High rate of fire machine guns should get like 45 rounds. Medium rate of fire should get like 30. Low rate of fire and high damage should get like 20
-
Do you not remember how insanely powerful they were in D1? Once you got heavy, you were unstoppable almost and capable of killing so quickly that you would still have heavy ammo when the next heavy crate was spawning. I'm glad they're not like that anymore.
-
And let Linears one shot body in crucible. I understand this would hurt gambit and I don’t care.
-
This is true. I couldn't believe the last Iron Banner quest wanted me to get MG kills. It's ridiculous how bad these things are in PvP. My other weapons have a faster TTK, so why would I ever want to use an MG?
-
Upon release hammerhead was shredding everything... But in typical bungie fashion they nerfed it into the ground
-
Ok,let me explain it to you In D1 every gun do more damage ...it's not just the MG....using primaries were actually effective against bosses.... MG are used to kill adds rapidly not DPS(xenophage being an exception) Not everything is made for DPS
-
Heir apparent seems pretty good
-
The only time LMGs feel good in PvE is when its a burn + heavyweight in strikes. Yesterday was Arc + Heavyweight and Thunderlord was feeling extra zappy. Then I put on Anarchy and the bosses died in like 3 seconds. 🤷
-
Adaptive are just about on par with 360 autos, which is why they feel bad in crucible. They were meta once in pve and pvp until bungie nerfed them.
-
Specifically speaking from a PvE standpoint… They are suppose to be good at ad clear but there are some people on these forums that would defend that but IMO they are terrible for even ad clear. With the exceptions of Xeno they are pretty much all trash… Big damage buff against red bars and majors would help them a bit.
-
Hammerhead go brrrrrr
-
-
Bungie is planning on buffing them soon:tm:.
