Hunter solar subclass was my favorite of the three hunter subclasses pre 3.0 release. Last season with the release of void 3.0 I was so excited to see what was in store for solar, void was incredible the new ways to build invisibility and play amidst the battle field pop in with a kill and vanish again... I LOVED it. As soon as solar dropped I got on to find disappointingly that the "Gunslinger" subclass I'd fallen in love with back in D1, had a surprising lack of gun slinging. It all became mid tree blade barrage... no reward for precision chaining other than reload speed. The only things benefitting from the fragments were one of the 4 melees and the grenades. There's no access to restoration other than the new healing grenade, reducing my choices to cause scorch to the knife trick melee. I'm even punished for causing ignitions with the heavy weight knife since it won't replenish the knife on radiant kills when targets are scorched, this also means I'm punished for playing with friends that are running solar builds. I have to avoid using my knife when an enemy is scorched if I want to get it back.
Overall I'm disappointed and wholly crushed that the identity of the "Gunslinger" has gone up in smoke. All that's left is a flashy display of flaming knives and explosions. Why do I not feel properly rewarded for chaining precision kills like warlocks are for airborne kills, or titans are for ability kills. I feel like the dream of being a space cowboy was replaced with being forced to use fan knives for their scorch so that I can use 90% of the fragments, and using the healing grenade so that I might be able to keep up with my warlock and titan counterparts.
TLDR: Just a space cowboy venting their frustration over the "Gunslinger" subclass since it has nothing to do with gunslinging and everything to do with knife trick.

I think to understand what you mean. The idea of the Gunglinger as "A lone wolf who lives for the perfect shot" (basically the principles at the base of Way of the Sharpshooter in the Solar 2.0) has been lost with Solar 3.0. Almost nothing has to do with Precision Shots and Precision Kills with guns excepet for "On Your Mark" Aspect. Fragments also don't contribuite to this. Defintely this seems to be a sort of "identity crisis" for this Subclass.

See, I was kinda with you, but then you started complaining that Warlocks got better stuff? Dude, the Warlock solar 3.0 is without question the worst subclass we've gotten in this system across all three classes. They took away more than they added, and build in negative synergies that make it difficult to use abilities. Playing solar lock pigeonhole's you unto a very limited and ineffective playstyle...so all of that said, its pretty outrageous that you'd use them as an example of a class who was built better. Not to mention, solar Hunter is an incredible class. Golden Gun is in a weird spot right now, but the majority of the build is very good - you can build for your choice of the highest dps in the game or masssive super uptime, ability spam vs gunplay, and can run up to 5 fragments if desired. There's tons of possibility in that class -- arguably the most in any 3.0 so far.

This is exactly what I’ve been saying. It’s not gunslinger anymore. Just “fire hunter”
-
Solar 3.0 does seem to have been made to give a middle finger to gg and everything that had to do with it.

Edited by BadDay: 6/10/2022 5:02:59 AMTypical hunter always crying, waaa we got the best neutral game and highest dps and best class for pvp waaa, big papa bungo we need a buff because being the best is just not enough, don't worry big daddy bungo always gives baby hunter what baby hunter wants, im 100% positive hunters will get a buff just so they can be more broken, so all these hunter mains can crutch harder.

Edited by MysticTR1: 6/10/2022 6:10:17 AMIm still wanting to see the hunter upgrade his golden gun for a shoulder mounted nuclear capable canon…yep like the predator!!!!! In fact just make a full on predator subclass for the hunter!

Gunslinger slaps , people get hung up on way to much stuff, I know absolute die hard arc staff users (bless their hearts) an long as you're having, especially PvE wise use whatever you want
-
Oh I totally get what you are saying. I’ve been a GG main since the early D1 days, and I just can’t really build my character right now. Just not feeling the solar hunter right now, as the whole identity of the Gunslinger is gone. Which takes away from my enjoyment in the game. I guess that’s the big issue when you streamline everything for all…..

You guys weren’t running gunslinger in anything pve beyond basic strikes/patrol. You weren’t using six shooter or even celestial in raids/nightfalls for at least a couple years. Stop acting like it’s the end of the world for golden gun in pve. It was bad before 3.0

this is a post: tell me you don't know how build without telling me you don't know how to build
-
Honestly I'm happy that golden gun isn't the go to right now, FINALLY being able to use solar hunter and not have celestial nighthawk be essentially mandatory to not be a detriment to the team feels good to me

I've been a Gunslinger main since January 2015 (The Dark Below) and I've never been happier. The main reason I've stayed on Gunslinger for so long despite it being outclassed in every possible way is simple: The Three T's. Tripmines. Throwing Knives. Triple Jump. I've never cared for Golden Gun, but that's mainly because I'm one of those wierdos that would rather shoot things with a cool primary weapon (Dead Man's Tale, The Last Word, The First Curse, etc.) than use my super. Six Shooter was way cooler, but replaced my Weighted Knife with a shitty knockoff Proximity Knife. Eww. Blade Barrage was fun (but weak), but replaced my Weighted Knife with Knife Trick, which was cool, but not nearly as cool as forcibly turning everything into a unicorn with Weighted Knives. For me, Solar 3.0 brought some significant boons to my playstyle: Knock 'Em Down makes it so that throwing knives are refunded on kill while radiant, and one of the fragments makes powered melee hits trigger radiance. Weighted knife now refreshes on any kill, and precision kills refund my Gambler's Dodge in case something survives (or, more likely, if a random kills my target while my character is spinning up the knife). Easier infinite knives and class abilities, plus my knives also buff my weapon damage? I see only improvements here. Gunpowder Gamble: When it works, it works. I've had Young Ahamkara's Spine stapled to my hunter since House of Wolves (again, I love Tripmines). Now I have yet another tool to recharge Tripmines with, and that tool is another, better tripmine! Upside: Shooting that thing outta the sky is peak Gunslinger power fantasy. Downside: It's better at killing me than it is at killing enemies. Hit detection is also terrible; sometimes it doesn't even tag the enemy that it's stuck to. EXPLOSIONS!!! We heard you liked explosions, so we added some explosions to your explosions to make them more explosion-y. Everything ignites. Nothing is safe. There will be no mercy. Downside: I also ignite. There will be NO mercy. Finally, and most importantly, I can run Weighted Knife and Six Shooter (i.e. the actually cool Golden Gun)/Blade Barrage (which is actually good now) at the same time. Riveting stuff, I know. As simple as it is, it frees up way more potential for my builds because I was previously stuck on bottom tree if I wanted Weighted Knife. Three of the perks for bottom tree Gunslinger were entirely dedicated to buffing the super that I didn't like and rarely used. What a waste. I understand that not everybody is going to love the changes, but for me, this is everything I wanted from Solar 3.0 and then some.

Yup ..they really removed gunslinger.

Edited by RingersCheckmate: 6/9/2022 11:43:32 PMI think weighted knife carries plenty of value, bringing back your class ability instantly and also igniting anything with scorch. It rewards you comboing with grenades and is amazing to pair with an incandescant weapon. I will say though, blade barrage is way too good right now. It shouldn't be beating a radiant marksman goldie in damage with star eater scales. Also 6 shooter became an amazing ad clear super with super final blows making ignitions.

Agree. I’m apparently one of the few that used weapons I like (Tex Mechanica) rather than what is dictated to be good each season. When you do you suffer for it though. and the longer it goes the more combat feels like a loop of the same actions over and over in a specific order with a specific weapon. Plus add in the seasonal mods like the fusion rifle swoon-fest we had recently. Feels tiresome. Combat used to be the best part. I’d say that’s about over though. But in D2 nothing is forever, so maybe there’s hope.

3.0's the end of class identifies. Amazing how long these were looked forward to only to have them one by one fall flat.
-
1) Restoration is not for you, so stop trying to build into it. 2) Gunslinger is the dps support subclass. You can have Radiant active all the time. This is how Gunslinger should have been from the start.
-
Over all hunters got better, we traded in golden guns every 3ish mins for stronger neutral game play kit Now I do wish they had done something about increasing golden guns damage if they are going to leave the super CD crazy high with no built in super regen like "knock'em down" use to provide. But over all hunter feels great.
-
I've been using the 6 shooter super, weighted knife, and incendiary grenade. I don't even know what aspects and fragments i'm using, but I haven't felt like any of it didn't stack up to my Titan or Warlock. I've almost always used tether since D1, and blade barrage for solar, and I really just tired of both. 6 shooter has been pretty fun.

So Hunter Solar 3.0 is now the best in the game. By far. https://youtu.be/KHNiY00Bq14
-
That one guy who said Titans would never get Twilight Garrison back because mid-air dodge is part of the Warlock identity, would like to have a word
-
Throwing knives need to get a buff in pve. The refunded melee energy on kills needs to be more consistent. If i want to spam my knives i shouldnt need to pace my melees and wait for the refresh each time i get a kill. Make that immediate. Weighted should be a guaranteed headshot kill for all red bar enemies. Even when slightly below light. We shouldnt need the new hunter exotic arms for proxy throwing knife to scorch/ignite. That should be default for an explosive ability.

You can still make it a gunslinger .....
