Lightfall has permanently ruined the lore
This is all speculation, tin foiled hat discussion so take it with a grain of salt. None of this is certain.
Strand was supposed to be the new subclass with WQ. It really makes sense when you think about it. Deepsight wasn’t just a gimmick for the campaign but the path to discovering strand. It fits with Savathuns psychological warfare and using our “third eye” so to speak. The hive originally would’ve been connected to strand but we would’ve found a way to wield it then. Its also why we have the buff “Thread cutter” in Savathuns bossfight.
You noticed why shadow legion have strand shields? Sure it could be because gameplay but they originally would’ve known about it from Savathun and also why Osiris is seen wielding it too, he was in her body so it makes sense.
And now it’s why Lightfall has fallen apart narratively. Story originally supposed to be in Witch Queen was thrown into LF because delays and Bungie couldn’t of possibly put all this content into expansions because the seasonal model needing content and their Train station operator mindset from their GDC talk where they prefer quantity over quality.
Lightfall would’ve been the size of forsaken, possibly bigger if you think about it. Neptune and wherever the witness goes at the end would’ve been the destinations, along with possibly new enemy factions and the final darkness subclass? Bungie could’ve absolutely done it but their mindset just wouldn’t allow it. Game development is tough I know it is but because of needing to cut corners it’s why the lore is absolutely disappointing and why we get to spend the next year essentially being told what should’ve been in the campaign. Oh well I suppose.

5 RepliesNews flash they retconned and ruined the lore of D1 and even other sections of D2 as early as Y1 of D2 with hot garbage like Curse of Osiris. If you expected any of this to culminate in a non BS way then I don't know what to tell you.

Presumably Calus is now dead for good and in the raid we fight nezarec but they have so much to deal with in the narrative between here and the final shape. What is happening with the traveller and witness? why is it even called lightfall? Unless we get a lot more story during the season the whole thing doesnt make much sense because they would have to add a hell of a lot of cutscenes to the raid to sort this out. They don't seem to be done with the nightmares themes, what is happening with Eris. drifter. Xivu Arath and the Vex are two major plot stories that they are now going to have to either deal with in the seasonal model or cram it all into the final shape with the Witness and whatever other plans they have for the story. The final shape is going to have to be bigger than forsaken to sort all this out properly. Either that or they are just going to gloss over it all. It doesnt look good,

2 RepliesThey permanently damaged the lore when killing the Traveller didn't take away our powers. It is allegedly dead now, and we are all fine. But a cage around it got rid of our powers in Red War, and the biggest issue with it being in Savy's throne world was we also would not have our powers... -blam!- like that makes no sense, and now neithee does the whole "Darkness envelopes you" because now we've learned Darkness isn't bad, the Witness using Darkness is bad.

If we’d have gotten Strand in WQ that would have made it the GOAT expansion. I could have waited until Lightfall for Light 3.0. Also, I wonder if they’d just given Lightfall another 6 months and gone back to a September release date; would they have even needed Final Shape?

I've played since D1 and I almost always end up skipping the cutscenes. This game's "plot" is just childish imo. Not my cup of tea but the gameplay is still fantastic.

Aliens that eat worlds, some have teleporting ships, invading Earth and yet could not defeat a bunch of weakling zombie guardians from the dead with weak supers that runs on timers. Fight the darkness and now you are darkness Spiderman or Disney singing snowman. Kill aliens but save aliens while watching two dudes make out. Game is so lost it has no identity anymore. A supposedly bad guy with smoky hair shows up but looks like a squishy toy for the mentally challenged kid. A squishy toy! Now you have Silver Surfers from Marvel defending The Matrix. And you’re supposed to be a dark Spiderman/Venom darkness wielding guardians fighting darkness. What? Hahahahahahaha! Like I said, game is so lost it has no identity. The guys who originally thought out what this game is supposed to be are long gone and are no longer working here. Lore now is a just a jumble mess of teenage angst. Hahahahahahaha! There is nothing here. Welcome to hollowness!

There is evidence that this is the case because hive have green eyes and crotas favourite colour is green, this is why the oversoul thing in his arena is green. Also strand was supposed to power our sparrows, this is why some sparrows can have a green boost There are even lore entries in destiny 1 way back in vanilla. The new monarchy guy and the cryptarch are talking about that time the tower was invaded by a group of fallen and the speaker said "it's stranding time", stroked his thread and tangled all over the place

All that’s bad with the campaign is that we aren’t getting any questions answered that’s it. By the time of the final shape the lore of the veil will be revealed. Lore and story are two different things. This campaign didn’t ruin the lore of destiny but rather just tried to tell a new story in a terrible way. The lore wasn’t bad the problem is we didn’t get enough of it.

Edited by KucciManPaps: 3/4/2023 2:39:08 PMIt’s so crazy to me that the everyone’s response to all of this is nearly “YOU GUYS DID IT ALL WRONG AND YOU MESSED UP AND ITS BAD…..but whatever I guess I’ll keep playing” Like it’s a good game but I personally find the changes disappointing the price tag overinflated for the amount of stuff you actually get for just the base “expansion” itself. Just like stop buying, supporting , and playing the games they create. Imagine if they woke up one day to check they player counts across all consoles just to see a fat ole goose egg. But nobody in this community can even come together to agree on something positive som getting people to hive mind together to essentially teach bungie a lesson is far from possible
