On the eve of the Showcase, remember the following:

Destiny 2 is a Minimum Viable Product. You're about to see another excellently-designed commercial. They'll probably reveal things like the final Darkness subclass. The name of the new destination. A few cool screenshots, maybe a clip or two of stuff happening there. Something regarding why Cayde's there. Probably something regarding new [read: reskinned] enemies we'll be fighting there. The hype will be real. But my word of caution to you is to keep it in check. Destiny 2 is a Minimum Viable Product. What I mean by that is that it's intentionally being designed to reach the following goals: 1) Give the customer as little "product" as possible for their money while still selling. 2) Charge the customer as much money as possible for the "product" while still selling. 3) Accomplish 1 and 2 while causing as little damage as possible to brand reputation. And what we learned from Lightfall is that even though it was a turd of a campaign and patrol area, the starting season was beyond bland, the followup season had one legitimately interesting idea (Deep Dives) that got hamstrung by various bad design decisions and was otherwise same-blam-different-day, and player sentiment has been steadily decreasing all the while... it still sold. Like, Lightfall SOLD. And what we told Bungie with that is that they were fine re: goal 3 during preorder/launch season, and that they haven't quite reached the "Minimum" part of Minimum Viable Product as it relates to goal 1. So you're going to see more stuff like that Joe Blackburn video from the other day, attempting to mitigate the reputation bleeding that's currently going on. You're going to see cool hype moments designed to get you excited about the next expansion. You're going to hear more promises and descriptions of new and upcoming features, because they want you to think that they're listening and they want to deliver with The Final Shape. And then it's going to launch with even less content than Lightfall and an even worse patrol destination. The raid will wind up locked behind a "Raid Key" if they think they can get away with it. The seasons will still be little more than a couple shallow strike knockoffs and/or yet another failed attempt at a Menagerie-style activity. PVP will not be improved. Gambit will be mostly ignored again. Battlegrounds will get thrown into the strike playlist and turned into GMs again despite not being even remotely tuned for that level of difficulty whatsoever. At no point are they going to address any of the legitimate issues plaguing the game. Because they know we'll buy it anyway.
