As much as I dislike it, being someone who deleted a ton of my gear, this is objectively the best decision they could make right now for the sake of the game.
Too many players who still haven't even heard that this happened who come back to reinstall and try new content just to realize they can't use their old stuff, and then they delete the game again and never look back.
I'll take the nuisance of knowing that I could have kept those weapons if it means that the state of the game improves.

This is the best comment I've seen on this news. I have 5 guns I saved from year 1 and they will get used just for fun like maybe 3 times after the reversal takes place.

I wish I kept more, but I still have my god rolled trophy hunter, the curated kindled orchid, and my favorite hammerhead. There's also an inaugural address that I kept because I used mods to change its element back in year one. Might be the only solar inaugural address that still exists. Out of the four, the only one I'll realistically ever use consistently is the kindled orchid, but it's something.

I have an orimunds anvil I'm happy with and similarly a guiding star I still use in PVP once and a while. Also three graves, no turning back, gravity slingshot, and subtle calamity. Hush as well for some reason. All are garbage rolls honestly compared to some of the crafted merchandise that has been introduced. Like it has already been mentioned, this news is bittersweet for most. Most of the sunset weapons I had would have been dropped by now anyway, but it would have been my choice(uninfluenced by sunsetting I mean).
