This isn't the exact same game it was when sunsetting occurred; perhaps at the time it was a necessary evil (for lack of a better term).

It’s had mild engine updates - but come on. How does that account for their BS about the gear breaking the game’s balance and needing to be removed for power creep? This gear didn’t get less potent after sunsetting.

Gear didnt get less potent, but enemies have been getting more powerful, or otherwise harder to kill. Those are the two design philosophies to deal with power creep. Make enemies stronger to compensate, or make us weaker. Sunsetting was them choosing the latter, what we have now is them choosing the former.

I'm not a programmer so I can't speak to the technical aspects of the entire thing. Even if I was though, without having personal hands-on knowledge of the programs and systems used, I wouldn't presume to have absolute understanding of what was/wasn't possible then compared to what is/isn't possible now.
