You guys have been killing it with the content/reveals lately so thanks for that. I started playing in Season of Arrivals 4 years ago, and have never felt so strongly about a nerf to make a post on a Bungie forum, but Lament has been my favorite weapon in the game since it came out and I don't want to see the fun, already slim viability factor needlessly tanked or taken from it because it's a top 3 choice in a grand total of one raid encounter (max two if you really don't wanna use Parasite these days) across the entire game. Atraks, the classic peanut butter to Lament's jelly had a solar burn and class ability buff advantage in Pantheon and people were still using Parasite for at minimum 80% of the encounter. Even damage aside, a lot of people don't jive very well with how Lament needs to be used to make the most of it, preferring to use a normal sword or a gun.
As it stands, the use cases for Lament (a whole exotic) in this game where it is a top 3 choice weapon like it is vs Crota or Atraks (much less a top 10 exotic choice or even a top 50 anything choice, dare I say even a top 100 general weapon choice in endgame) are slim to none, and even then, it's usually fighting with literally just decently rolled Legendary swords for crying out loud (no, not saying swords need a nerf), not to mention other exotics just for a chance at consideration.
Even in terms of protection, Lament still doesn't shoot to the top as long as you have some sort of damage resist or healing technique going on. But in a scenario where swords are even being considered, that is usually either always the case (Well/BoW etc.) or completely unneeded (burst DPS phases like Atraks).
I personally stand firmly behind the stance that you shouldn't nerf something unless you're judging its over-performance based upon how well it does in actual endgame content (GMs, Master NFs/Master Raids etc.). In 99% of the modes that Lament slays in, most things will slay in, only way better while being better suited for your general gameplay than Lament is. Based upon general consensus and as I'd assume one of Lament's more experienced users, the exotic is literally almost never viable or useful for the overwhelming majority of your consistent player base in high end pve. It only becomes viable (still far from broken) if they are also good at using Stronghold or if Passive Guard is on the seasonal artifact that season. Both of those are rarely ever the case and even then, people still rarely take Lament (or any sword) into endgame PvE. That's not because it's broken and people don't know it. It's because it's genuinely not broken and generally just never worth running unless you just enjoy using the weapon enough to push for it.
Before this nerf, Lament was only ever viable in challenging content (again, still not broken) for people who went out of their way to get good with the weapon simply because they enjoyed it that much. It was a high-reward highest-risk weapon that wasn't OP or broken. In my opinion, it perfectly earned its exotic slot. Taking into account the grander, more broad applications of the weapon, please reconsider what is in my opinion, a completely overkill nerf for something that is far from overused or overpowered, and barely the go-to in the only instance in which it usually finds any modicum of serious consideration: a total of two (generally normal mode) raid encounters and one dungeon encounter from back in the the Witch Queen.
TL;DR
Please revert the latest nerf to The Lament for the following reasons. Lament's pre-most recent nerf viability already left it being barely used as is, much less considered for anyone's loadout. The sole exception, was for one specific encounter in two specific raids, one of which came out almost 4 years ago and people never do anymore. Even then, it's never even the top choice, despite being an exotic whose only contenders are legendaries in the same slot that can easily be swapped on and off of.
Signed
-The 2% of the player base who use The Lament outside of Atraks-1 (when they don't have Parasite or a sword they feel more comfortable with), Gahlran and Crota (if they don't have a sword with surrounded or something).

look bungie has trouble with difficulty and this is how they make the game more difficult . unfortunately the hard core players cry its to easy . so bungie responds with nerfs .eventually they will be given a sling shot and they won't complain ,unless it's to difficult. then it starts all over again. you can't enjoy all the content you paid for in this game because of the difficulty . so get your money back and take up a better more enjoyable game that you get what you paid for.destiny is not it.

i was baffled reading about the nerf. the exo is weak/unused anyway. theyll make it so that no one will touch it anymore. im not even want to play with it. im just wondering why nerf a weapon that is in such a bad spot

So disappointed with the Lament nerf. Lament has been my heavy weapon of choice for so many solo & solo flawless dungeons on my hunter specifically using it for the healing aspect. 1. Pit of Heresy final encounter 2. Duality all encounters 3. Grasp of Avarice all encounters 4. Ghost of the Deep 2nd encounter 5. Warlord’s Ruin 1st encounter Rather than nerfing Lament to make it useless for solo content maybe Bungie should be more focused on the design boss encounters. Having multiple ads that can damage/kill you when you are damaging a boss when there is no cover are the main reason for using Lament (providing that boss isn’t floating in the air!) Give us the option of clearing all ads before a damage phase starts or stop forcing us to stand in a specific location to do damage then maybe the utility of using something other than Lament would increase. IMO just nerfing Lament is the easy option rather than taking the time to look at why it is being used & changing that.

you just need to ruin the game so that it would be impossible to play it and the problem is solved... who would have thought that Activision would make D4 better than it was (but bungo do everything the other way round, it’s not surprising that tfs sales are still low) 🫰🏻

honestly its insane that they thought it needed a nerf, now even exotic weapons cant be better than legendary ones.

I'm not surprised... "this" is Bungie. Just to be fair, the review also includes buffs, but hitting The Lament and Osteo Striga with a nerf - Osteo with the second already, is just unnecessary. I just don't understand why Bungie is removing the fun on and on from this game. The content has reached a level of difficulty, where it just isn't entertaining anymore. I do it, but just to get it done. And, judging by Lightfall, I really wonder how "bad" in ways of difficulty The Final Shape will be. I get it, Bungie wants to have his customers in the game, but it should be, because of it's fun - and entertaining -, and not because of their loyalty. OP, hopefully your polite request will get the attention from the Dev Team it deserves. And maybe they start to reconsider their yearly tuning party. - Not just with The Lament.

Poor Lament out here catching strays, when it honestly feels like q very well balanced exotic.
-
I'm lamented to say, but the Lament got a very lamented nerf to its' very lamented existence. WHAT is the point of an EXOTIC, if the exotic weapon/armor piece is turned into trash, like the Titan gauntlets, Citan Ramparts?
-
All these nerfs are obvious because of the raid.. they just thinking ahead.. those weapons would probably make the raid irrelevant lol

Edited by An Engram Full Of Bees: 5/17/2024 2:30:32 AMi hate using lament because of the long button combo for “optimum dps” and i’m a lazy -blam!-

Lament felt like my best friend when I. Was trying solo dungeons like GOA etc. Gonna miss

Dear Bungie and CEO Parsons, Some of us work on the days the Twitch emblems drop on those specific days. I know no one cares anymore at the Bungie HQ about those who can't get those special emblems. I would like for other ways to earn those emblems lost in translation. I can't inform my boss or work site that their equipment won't be install because I have to watch Twitch stream to get these special emblems. I know no one is listening at the Bungie HQ or is reading these posts either.

Bungie would give out free silver before walking back a nerf They are stubborn morons
-
Season of Arrivals was 4 whole years ago?
-
Guessing there's a boss in the raid that's swordable
-
Bungie does not understand you play a game for fun. These unnecessary nerfs, make the game more of a job and tedious chore. I'll have to stop playing this crap after I finish the story in The Final Shape.
-
The nerf will not alter it's viability in the specific encounters that you've listed. It will still do basically the same job it does now. This change is clearly to stop 6 BoW titans ruining at least one of the new raid encounters. Chill my guy, it'll still slap Atraks booty hard.

Facts! I swear, Bungie makes sandbox decisions based on spreadsheets and not in-game experience. This is the same reason why they don’t give 1K Voices, Truth, D.A.R.C.I., or the myriad of underperforming exotics any meaningful buffs. They look at their spreadsheets and think, “these are fine.” They have no idea WHY they’re not used.

i get the idea behind the change i just dont agree with it.. maybe the health grated should scale based off of the damage delt
-
bunch of bad players if you crutch so hard on one weapon

Lament is a top option for a reason It’s extremely ammo efficient, applies additional healing for free, and doesn’t require any sort of setup to deal max damage. It also has one of the better burst damage options in the game with 0 setup. I also think this damage nerf isn’t as bad as you make it out to be. All swords (including exotics like Lament) are getting a 7% damage increase. Lament’s damage nerf is 20 at a max stack combo. Assuming that you’re doing the optimal combo now (2 - 2 - 1), you’re capping out at x6. Assuming the nerf escalates evenly, it’s proabbaly hovering around a 13% damage nerf at 6x. 1 x 1.07 x 0.86 = about 0.9202 or ~8% nerf. It’s annoying but I don’t think it’s the end of the world. But at the same time, I don’t think it needed the nerf so it’s a bit frustrating.

I have never really used Lament, and the few times I did the Riven cheese, it was with Fallen Guillotine, but this post appears to be so well written that I want to upvote and support it.

Lament is also my favorite exotic. Looks cool, operates on a unique level, and was powerful burst damage. I mean in D1 my fav weapon was Raze-Lighter so it felt like it filled that missing void for me. I hate to see it keep getting knocked down when it is a shadow of what it once was. I mean legendaries make it a joke. Sigh. Sad part? My first exotic love of D2 was Anarchy and look what happened to it too ☠️
