It’s obvious that you’re all hands on deck with Marathon, and are doing only the bare minimum to keep Destiny from going all the way under. But as Marathon is a PvP focused game—and as you have NOT done a good job sustaining PvP for almost all of Destiny 2’s lifespan—why should people trust you to get Marathon right?
You don’t balance lobbies well, you hate solo players, and you don’t give good PvP rewards.
Again: why should people trust your upcoming toy when your current one is broken due to lack of attention/effort?

Edited by eliteg: 10/6/2024 9:53:27 PMI think something fundamental that will help PVP in this game is Bungie stating their philosophy for the mode... guarantee-ing.. something of integrity to the mode... and then giving us visibility to that with increased transparency.. and all that requires some commitment of development into PVP. 1. philosophy 2. guarantee 3. transparency 4. investment PVP is pound for pound the most replay-able least needing of new content/investment thing imo. You figure out the mode, provide the maps, the balance, the reported stats at the end... people and the variety of weapons/builds provide the fresh content. The need for differing weapon perks & builds make chasing things in the rest of the game have extra value.. increases engagement.

Marathon will be a flop. Calling it. Screenshot this post. Nobody is going to care about a $40 extraction shooter

Lmfao yeah, D2's PvP is so horrible. Wonder how you got 177k kills in it, that must have been a torture. My condolences.
-
PvPvE, which is what extractions are, is a completely different form than arena pvp. I don't know that Bungo can make a good extraction game, but using a looter-shooter with an arena pvp mode to say they can't is very, very dumb.

Decided to hop on after 3 months of not playing. Played 2 PvP games, got error coded. Uninstalled. 😂

There is nothing wrong with waiting to buy Marathon until after you've seen gameplay and have more information. Lots of great developers have made dud games... Just like lots of bad (or at least, small) developers have made good games... Make your decisions based on the GAME, not the DEVELOPER.

Edited by everwilling: 10/7/2024 3:51:52 AMExactly it’s so obvious . Pvp will fade out like destiny one eventually. We knew it was coming so not a big deal . What will the control junkies to do and where they going to ho to get their fix of pvp 🤷🏼♂️

Again: why should people trust your upcoming toy when your current one is broken due to lack of attention/effort?
The biggest issues with D2 PvP is lack of population. There just aren't as many people playing the game anymore, which makes any matchmaking strategy Bungie goes with bad. If I had to wager a guess, I'd say that a significant percentage of today's population is mixed between complete noobies and try hards as most of the people I personally know who have quit the game are about average in PvP. With the middle of the skill range gutted (not gone just gutted), that means a lot of people are matched with a smattering try hards and noobs, leading to lopsided matches. This problem won't go away until: 1. D2 dies. 2. The population goes up or enough sweats leave that the population skews average and beginners again. Marathon, upon its release, will be different for the following reasons: 1. You won't be joining into a game and immediately set against players who have 5000 hours of experience because the game hasn't been out that long. 2. It's going to be basically only PvP so everyone playing is going for the same thing. And 3. If it's a bona fide PvP game, there will be a ranking system, which will be what people focus on instead of KD farming like they do in D2. So, if they do it right, Marathon has the potential to be a vastly better PvP game than D2. But we'll have to wait and see.

I am facing teleporting players too many times nowadays.. my connection is beyond good I check again and again, it’s not from my end. Sometimes my shotty shots are not being registered even when I am sneaking behind someone. Sometimes I am getting one shot by some pulse (scalar potential I remember). Last control match, 3 players from my side was shooting a guy and his shield was not dropping a bit..

Marathon might be good. Destiny would've died October 2014 if it didn't have superior gunplay
-
Marathons lifespan is probably going to be comparable to concord. Remember that when your favorite streamer/youtuber promotes it. Their livelihood is dependent on you actually being invested in the game.
-
Sometimes its not that bad. Then its someone else's turn. Howbout we just have everyone having great gameplay at once?
-
It seems to me that not even Bungie & Sony trust that Marathon will be successful. One trailer over a year ago. Leaks about something as basic as what kind of game it will be Deathmatch, Extraction or Hero. $0 or $40 or $70. Sony can still pull the plug. It might not survive long enough to get to Beta. It's been radio silent only because they have nothing good to say or show.

Look at how fast Concord died off. I’m not paying full price for only a PvP game and people are just going to stand still and quit out. If it’s only PvP it’s gotta be free for me.
-
I would not, which is why i am not touching that extraction shooter, hero shooter, or whatever else type of game they decide marathon is going to be after the feedback they got was non-satisfactory.
-
Marathon pfffff.. can't wait to see the same connection problems , the same maintenance troubles. Same excuses . Changing the title is not going to change the narrative. There's enough pvp games out there. I don't think this will even come close to them.
-
Again: why should people trust your upcoming toy when your current one is broken due to lack of attention/effort?
Well, if you can answer why people pre-order games by just only watching a trailer, you'll have your answer. I already have mine, and Destiny fans are one of the worst when it comes to making idiotic decisions.

There’s a really low bar for PvP in 2024. Look at COD ranked. Packet loss hell and next to unplayable as you progress through the ranks. And that’s supposed to be dedicated servers.

Because destiny, and looter shooters as a whole, are a genre that is consistently poisonous towards any kind of pvp scene, and the fact that theyve still managed to make the crucible into a mode that their players care about in spite of that should be a sign of some level of mastery. Marathon is a game in a pvp genre, unlike destiny. Pvp doesnt have to give for the sake of pve. Imagine a crucible unrestricted by the limitation of having to be, even tangentially, attached to the pve modes. We are still talking about the studio that made halo after all, even if many of those senior staff members that worked on it are gone.
