Feedback/Review on Lightfall (from current Open Access)
Hope others who tried it can give their feedback/review as well (or any opinions).. but maybe this is more for Bungie.
---------------------------------
I never played the Lightfall Campaign.. and so not having Revenant I jumped at the opportunity to play-through and earn some weapons > so first off THANK YOU to Bungie for doing that out of the blue.
I've gotten a slew of weapons including exotics and since its not over yet I think I have one remaining.. Winterbite.
Man... I was expecting a disaster of a story and characters from all the reviews and especially this forum. I don't know if the difficulty was adjusted (I've never had issue with PVE just was usually PVP focused).. but was also weary of the difficulty from the reviews..but no issue there.. I don't know if the dialogue has been adjusted because some of you.. (right)-eous few were goin on and on about some characters... but my review is:
Overall > pretty fun, tricky/clunky story-line but understandable for those who have watched/read sci-fi which helps explain the emptiness of the place, no problem with the unique characters and stories of these Neptunians (Neomuni?).. some weapons seem interesting.. and the Terminal Overload activity (once you figure out how to get keys) can be fun (especially as there is always some guardians roaming around joining in).
One part where you are listening to archives (for quite some time) to Chioma and the Doctor and Osiris and Nimbus.. tells a significant amount of story-line and you have to listen to it all to get it.. it was a very strange/unexpected part gameplay-wise but integral to understanding some things. Good clear voice-acting here helped. (probably those sketch/cartoon things are better for such things)
I play Warlock only and the Strand (and Stasis) my feedback is the super is not fun. Other abilities fine in PVE. Strand though is the focus of Lightfall and felt there was a solid tutorial actually. I understood it all and never used it before. Grapple is awesome tech. (I didn't have time to study aspects/fragments yet but truly regret their complexification of this action/adventure game)
I approach these campaigns as introducing me to a new place.. new set of characters and really easy gameplay because its supposed to focus on the story (more like walking through a movie where you can't truly die.. or have anything difficult).. and then the meat & potatoes of D2 is the stuff you grind/farm.. the activities/weapons/armor..etc... that should have variable approaches and difficulty for all.
--------------
So with my ramblings up there what I'm trying to say is:
--Thanks for the Lightfall play-through and weaps
--Really not as bad as everyone said (perhaps adjustments have been made)
--Played through in a few days (including what I want from activities/quests)
--I kinda feel separating the story and letting it truly shine get guardians invested and understanding the stakes will help (leave out significant game-play)
--Then focusing on the high-value repeatable activities and gameplay.. if you can tie them strongly to reasons in the story great.. if not.. just make them high-quality.. more important investment
thx for readin
