Why did the Covenant not glass Earth?
Does anyone know why the Covenant would start excavating Earth?
Better yet, does anyone know why exactly Regret was on his way to Earth? It wasn't because of humans, as Cortana states that humans on Earth was a surprise to Regret.
Anyone have any idea about this?
Edit: For claification, I'm talking about how exactly the Covenant knew that the Ark was on Earth, instead of just glassing it right off the bat, like they did with Reach.

The glassed Reach because it was a military outpost. It was part of a military operation. Truth's trip to Earth was not a military operation, hence the fact that a prophet was present to begin with. When 2 begins it is entioned by the admiral that the force sent to Earth is significantly smaller than the one that glassed Reach. Thats because they didnt figure to find the Human homeworld

they knew about the thing on reach, then glassed that. apparently, after having a scarab blown up, regret fled because he had found directions to delta halo. he probably wanted to get straight to it, and couldn't be bothered to fight us, so left.

Truth came looking to Earth looking for something. Most likely the Ark. They didnt expect any humans to be here. In 2 as u r playing the 3rd level Cortana mentions how they are surprised we are on Earth. Thats y they dont glass the planet.

It is possible the covenant new about the arks being on earth but just wanted proof and did not want to endanger their troops.

they didn't glass all of Reach for the Crystal. They didn't glass the area near the ark for the same reason.

I think the prophet of Regret knew it from gererations behind him, and i dunno. its something we have to wait to know. And, Why people keep miss spelling the word Earth? =/

Not true Reach had that Crystal in it.

Well, Reach was of no importance to the Covenant, but Earth has a forerunner artifact on it. Glass the planet, glass the artifact.

Regret came because it is said the 4runner artifact the arc is there they didn't glass it because they don't want to destroy the arc.

they knew the ark was there since the beginning of Halo 2. that was the only place they went to. even cortana said something about this that it was the only place the covies landed. they knew it all along.

I was talking about just "how" the Covenant knew that the structure in the E3 trailer was there.

the location of earth was discovered by the recovery of an artififact originally in a human museum that was actually a starmap of all forerunner locations. (earth).. Its in the books...when the Covenant attack Cotz de Azur or something like that...they found Eartj because we didn't know what we had...

If you read the books you find that the forrunners left artifacts with information and star map locations for certain important creations, halo and arc etc. In the first game its no coincidence they go to Halo cortana decripts the info and jumps during the battle at reach. Similaly the Covenant know that in teh location of earth there is a very important artifact, one so important that they dare not damage the planet to that extent (leads to suggestion that the whole planet maybe important rather than just one excavation)

because the ark is there and they know it, thats my guess its not the truth about the humans i am guessing that regret just expected to find the ark at the location of earth they didnt know that the ark was the humans home world again all speculation [Edited on 6/13/2006]
