I mean, "maw" sounds like a real word, but i dunno what it means.
I know it's Scottish slang for "mother," it could be that :P
Also; wasn't The Maw just the best level in a game ever?

Taken from the Halo 2 Vista/Halo PC/Halo Mac forum, The Maw: 1. A wide open place for PC Halo players to come and chew the fat. 2. The mouth, stomach, jaws, or gullet of a voracious animal, especially a carnivore. In the Bible, the flood (of Noah's Ark, note the lowercase f) is referred to as 'swallowing up'. Sorry, I don't know the verse off the top of my head.
Posted by: Stepha Bon It is called the Maw because that's the name for the longsword fighter Cheif escapes on.
No... it's not. And yes, I read all the books. I'm pretty sure it's named after what has been said - an angry, gaping mouth. The Pillar of Autumn was about to explode, the Flood were escaping - the universe was literally closing in around the Chief, in a way.
Posted by: Stepha Bon "Maw" is definetly another word for a mouth, but an angry gaping one. It is called the Maw because that's the name for the longsword fighter Cheif escapes on.
