Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta Echo Foxtrot Golf Hotel India Juliet Kilo Lima Mike November Oscar Papa Quebec Romeo Sierra Tango Uniform Victor Whiskey X-Ray Yankee Zulu Sierra, you can either have it Spartan or Soldier. It's basically a 's'
Posted by: SeraphvsIvdicii
Posted by: Sang a Song I know all about NATOs phonetic code, but I have hard time believing NATO would still be around so I'm using a little thing called Occam's Razor and just going with Sierra = forest, and oh s**t! The levels a forest!
Occam just rolled over in his grave. The UNSC uses modern US Navy and Marine Corps ranks, why wouldn't they use the standard NATO alphabet (for those who don't know, the US is part of NATO), too?
Ha, pwned.

It's a pun. Sierra is military code-speak for the letter "S," as in S-117 which obviously means Spartan 117. It also takes place in the sierras, such as the mountains and hills that Sierra 117 takes place in. [Edited on 07.28.2007 8:51 PM PDT]

Sierra = code for S. S 117 = Spartan 117

Well, if we're lucky, we only have a few weeks until all our questions are answered.
Posted by: Arc Angel XVI Echo 419 = Foehammer. Although I could be mistaken. Remmber guys this is Bungie, they probably did a bit of reading and realized that not only does Sierra fit with the NATO phonetic alphabet, but relates to the first level being in a forest. Who says it has to have one meaning. Ark ring any bells?
Very true. Though I personally hold the belief that the Ark is like The Ark of the Covenant with a slipspace rift that leads to the Shield, which we know parallels Noah's Ark by protecting all within from the Halos...
-
a better question would be why not? :P
-
Echo 419 was the name of a Pelican in the original Halo. Since the objective of the first level is to locate a downed Pelican, Sierra 117 is probably the name of the Pelican you're looking for.
-
Sierra= NATO code for the letter S. Therefore Sierra 117= S117= Spartan 117
Posted by: Sang a Song I know all about NATOs phonetic code, but I have hard time believing NATO would still be around
Just because NATO may or may not be around doesn't mean that the NATO phonetic code will go out of use. I mean, we do still use the roman numerals, but are the ancient romans still around? Just because someone/thing isn't around, doesn't mean what they created is immediately put out of use, if it is effective enough in its job, itl stay.

Listen to the podcast... Frankie says this "For all you military folk out there, you should know that Seirra stands for Spartan." He said that because it's the freakin military code. Like A=Alpha...you know what I'm talkin about, it's been posted on here like 20 times.

Nobody knows what they mean! t drives me crazy. You replace "E" which can easily be misunderstood over a radio or something with "Echo" for example, or "S" with "Sierra" or "L" with "Lima"
I know all about NATOs phonetic code, but I have hard time believing NATO would still be around so I'm using a little thing called Occam's Razor and just going with Sierra = forest, and oh s**t! Because Bungie has a history of using punch lines in there caption most of the time [Edited on 07.28.2007 8:23 PM PDT]
