I know this is an old game and nobody cares anymore but i still enjoy the online play, i guess maybe someone can still help me...
So the problem is that i can't play halo multiplayer anymore, everytime i try to join a server it comes up with loading screen then gathering exception data error and then halo has stopped working error... This problem happens with Halo trial, Halo CE and Halo 1.09 and i've tried reinstalling all of them.
I've been playing halo for 4 years now without any problems, i had this error few days ago and i was playing fine a day before the error happened so that propably means something happened in that one day, however i have no idea what... Pretty much the only thing i did was install AOE II and its expansion that day (for old times sake)and i really can't see any relevance... I did also change some settings to get AOE II to work in windows 7, closed explorer.exe, changed to normal windows theme etc. but i changed everything back to what they were before.
I DID get the game to work on "safe mode" though but obviously it's not really even playable on that mode... Since "safe mode" turns of all kind of graphical options maybe there's something wrong with my graphical settings? I haven't changed my ATI control panel settings or in-game settings after the day the game worked though so i can't see how that would have happened.
I doubt it has anything to do with ports either, it should just say unable to join the game or something rather than crashing the whole game if that would be the case.
TL;DR: Game crashes when trying to join a multiplayer server, happens on Halo trial, 1.09 and CE, tried reinstalling but nothing changed.
Is there any way to check what is causing the error like an error report or something, after all shouldn't it be gathering some data when it comes up with that error?

Alright i tried to do a complete uninstallation of the game and i cleaned registry with CCleaner and nothing changed... I'm honestly giving up now, i've never had a problem like this, it might be just some simple compatibility problem with some windows setting that i did on the day the error first came up but i have no idea what it could be... and that's the problem if i would know where to look for i could propably fix this problem but i don't so there's no chance. Is there any way i could track the location of the problem? The only thing i can think of is that in order to get AOE II colors right i had to end explorer.exe after launching the game... could that have done some damage to halo then, a damage that is not fixed by uninstallation? That's the only thing i can think of... And as i've said before the game works in "safe" mode so something the safe mode disables makes the game work again... i'm not an expert at this though so i have no idea what it could be.
